Terry Alexander
Where are you from? Carrollton, GA

When did you start barrel racing? Started Barrel Racing in 1968

Are you involved in any other equine events No, just teach barrel racing lessons and do clinics

Who or What got you started barrel racing?  Got started barrel racing when a neighbor built an arena next door and I had a pony I took to his first show.

What was the name of your favorite horse and tell us a little about it.  Several favorite horses: Dancer (Double Neon Dancer) and T (Rockets Day Dream) Dancer is a mare that I purchased as a 4 year old at the end of her futurity year, she own many rodeo year-end championships, and really was the biggest start for making my name in barrel racing. She is appendix bred by the TB Finally Gotacha who is by Swoon's Son on her top side and out of a Johnny Dail mare. She is one of the smartest horse I have ever ridden. I still own her. T is a 9 year old gelding who was an outstanding futurity horse, winning and placing in many futurities. He was the 1998 World Champion Futurity Horse and the 1998 BFA Champion. He won the Southeastern Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals in 1999. He is such a special horse because he adapted from a futurity horse into an outstanding rodeo horse. He loves to barrel race. His sire is Hesa Gay Dreamer and is is out of a daughter of Azure T.

What are some of the events that you have won (or races that stand out in your mind)?  OKC World Futurity Champion, BFA Champion, Southeast Circuit Champion, US Cowboy Tour Finals Champion, Professional Cowboy Finals Champion

Over the years have you noticed any changes in barrel racing what are the good or bad you've seen?  More money being paid, more riders, stiffer competition overall. Changes to a 3-D format and then on to a 4-D format. Good: more barrel racers and more money. Bad: Too many additional fees.

What do you think of an equal Payout format in 4-D?  I think that your fastest group of horses should always win the most money. I do not think that a horse that is outrun by 2 seconds should receive the same as the horse that won. I think is should be progressive pay.

Think of yourself as Professional Barrel Racer? Yes

Advice for those starting in barrel racing?  Buy a seasoned, safe horse and get with a professional that you have confidence in. Stay with one instructor until you are advanced enough to be on your own.

Do you think Barrel Racing should be limited to Women Only? No
