1999 Elite Barrel Futurity

Thanks To All The Great Contestants who entered this year's Futurity!

The Futurity scene is changing and with changes come difficult decisions. The future of the Elite Barrel Futurity is uncertain at this time. Our sole purpose for producing a futurity was to protect the young horses who were not physically and mentally ready to go to early spring futurities (as a 4 yr old). The decision made by the BFA to go to 5yr olds takes the pressure off of these horses. The timing of this decision was unfortunate for the Elite Barrel Futurity as well as the contestants who had entered prior to the decision. Our apology to all the Fall Contestants for having to make the decision whether to run or hold and run as a 5yr old.

As a small futurity producer it is difficult to compete with the large futurities with much more added money. As a contestant the ability to pay the huge entry fees at several futurities is limited. We are very concerned that these larger futurities will weed out the smaller ones. The decision will be made in the near future as to whether the Elite Barrel Futurity will be held in 2000 over Labor Day Weekend. Thank you to all the contestants (past and present) who have supported our futurity!
