Lancaster, Fort Worth, Texas<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHY:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To continue in our mission, which is to honor and document the lives honor and document the lives of women who have distinguished themselves while exemplifying the pioneer spirit of the American West.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kalyn Brooks (1978-2001)<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn with numerous birth defects including deafness and a growth hormone deficiency, Brooks defied the odds and became an accomplished horsewoman.\u00a0 Known as the \u201cMiracle Barrel Racer,\u201d she won Miss Fort Vancouver in 1995 and Miss Northwest Pro Rodeo Association in 1997.\u00a0 She died from heart surgery complications she incurred as a child.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nellie Cashman (1845-1925)<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Irish-born pioneer was one of the few female business-owners in the American West.\u00a0 From Alaska to Arizona, miners had restful quarters and good meals thanks to her boarding houses and restaurants.\u00a0 Because of her benevolence, she earned the nicknames \u201cMiner\u2019s Angel,\u201d \u201cAngel of Tombstone\u201d and \u201cFrontier Angel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Terry Stuart Forst<\/strong><br \/>\nThis ranching industry leader manages the oldest family ranch in Oklahoma, the 7S Stuart Ranch, winner of the 1995 AQHA\u2019s Best Remuda Award.\u00a0 She turned the ranch around financially by embracing change and transformed the ranch into one of the most profitable ranches in the Southwest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Donna Howell-Sickles<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the Western art genre, North Texas artist, Donna Howell-Sickles has been exploring the layers beneath the cowgirl\u2019s engaging exterior for more than 30 years. A vintage postcard featuring a cowgirl with ruby red lips atop her horse captured Donna\u2019s fascination with the cowgirl. Her artwork encapsulates the camaraderie and the timelessness of the cowgirl spirit.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to our 2007 inductees, Alice L.
