{"id":2107,"date":"2009-03-26T21:50:24","date_gmt":"2009-03-26T14:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/?p=2107"},"modified":"2009-03-26T21:50:24","modified_gmt":"2009-03-26T14:50:24","slug":"learn-backcountry-camping-at-quarterfest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/industry\/learn-backcountry-camping-at-quarterfest\/","title":{"rendered":"LEARN BACKCOUNTRY CAMPING AT QUARTERFEST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"text\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><em>America<\/em><\/span><\/span><span class=\"text\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><em>\u2019s Horse, March 25, 2009 \u2013<\/em> Bo Winslow, a clinic instructor with the Certified Horsemanship Association, will be featured at QuarterFest: A Celebration of the American Quarter Horse <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum in\u00a0Murfreesboro,\u00a0Tennessee, May 1-3.<span class=\"text\"> Winslow will provide information and advice for horsemen preparing for a backcountry camping trip.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"text\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Below are some of the topics he will be discussing:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><\/p>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Preparing for the trip:<\/strong> covering the rules and regulations of the camping\/packing area you are visiting<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Horse selection:<\/strong> discussing the conformation you are looking for in your pack and riding animals; securing horses, learning how to tie a picket line that will secure several horses for the night, and many other ways to secure horses<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Packing:<\/strong> learning and practicing using the double diamond hitch and the box hitch, two very basic hitches used by many packers in the industry<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Campsite selection:<\/strong> learning what to look for in a campsite, low-impact guidelines, fire building in tough conditions, setting up and taking down camp with the least amount of impact<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Dutch-oven cooking:<\/strong> learning to prepare biscuits and cobbler using a Dutch oven<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Winslow has worked in the horse industry for more than 25 years. He has experience in pack and trail, colt training, riding instruction, breeding AQHA foundation bloodlines and show management. He has been a clinic instructor for the Certified Horsemanship Association, an AQHA alliance partner. Winslow is also a past president of the organization. He is a life member of both CHA and AQHA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Winslow is currently the fairgrounds and events manager for\u00a0Estes Park,\u00a0Colorado. He works with many different horse groups, musicians and artists to put on events throughout the year, everything from an award-winning PRCA rodeo to a hunter-jumper show to a Christmas parade.\u00a0Winslow\u2019s family \u2013 his wife, Lauri, and his son and daughter \u2013 are the source of joy in his life.\u00a0In his free time, he volunteers with the local fire department and is a deacon at his church.\u00a0Winslow also enjoys winter projects in his wood shop as the snow falls outside. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Winslow is one of many clinicians being featured at QuarterFest. Numerous demonstrations and clinics will be held all weekend long. Other featured clinicians include: Julie Goodnight of Salida, Colorado; Curt and Tammy Pate, a husband and wife from Newell, South Dakota; Jeff Griffith of Gallatin Gateway, Montana; Bob Avila of Temecula, California; and Christy Landwehr of Aurora, Colorado.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">You can participate in as many clinics as you\u2019d like with your general admission ticket to QuarterFest.
