{"id":224,"date":"2005-06-17T02:13:33","date_gmt":"2005-06-16T19:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/?p=224"},"modified":"2006-08-08T22:45:48","modified_gmt":"2006-08-08T15:45:48","slug":"update-on-the-vesicular-stomatitis-situation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/industry\/update-on-the-vesicular-stomatitis-situation\/","title":{"rendered":"Update on the Vesicular Stomatitis situation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Carla Everett,<br \/>\nTexas Animal Health Commission, 1-800-550-8242<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Utah has two confirmed cases of VS&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On June 17, 2005, the National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in<br \/>\nAmes, IA, confirmed the finding of vesicular stomatitis (VS)<br \/>\nin a horse on a premises in Garfield County, Utah.  This is the<br \/>\nfirst confirmed case of vesicular stomatitis in the State of Utah in 2005.<br \/>\nUtah had no cases of vesicular stomatitis in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The two affected horses were taken on a pleasure ride on May 22nd in the<br \/>\nsoutheastern part of the State along the Escalante river where the owner<br \/>\nnoticed an abundance of biting flies and insects.  The owner first noticed<br \/>\nthe animals were sick a little over a week later on May 31.<\/p>\n<p>A subsequent case of vesicular stomatitis also was diagnosed by NVSL on<br \/>\nJune 17 in a horse on a premises in Davis county, UT.  Vesicular stomatitis<br \/>\nhas not been seen in this part of the State in past outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>The USDA&#8217;s latest reports indicate 17 premises are under VS quarantine<br \/>\nin Arizona; and 1 each are under quarantine in New Mexico and Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to moving livestock to other states, ensure you have met all entry<br \/>\nrequirements.
