{"id":2271,"date":"2009-05-14T01:46:18","date_gmt":"2009-05-13T18:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/?p=2271"},"modified":"2009-05-14T01:46:18","modified_gmt":"2009-05-13T18:46:18","slug":"reining-to-be-the-first-test-event-for-2010-world-equestrian-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/industry\/reining-to-be-the-first-test-event-for-2010-world-equestrian-games\/","title":{"rendered":"REINING TO BE THE FIRST TEST EVENT FOR 2010 WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><em><span>The American Quarter Horse Journal, May 12, 2009<\/span><\/em><span class=\"normal1\"><span> \u2013 T<\/span><\/span>he Kentucky Cup Reining will not only be the first event to slide into the new indoor arena at the\u00a0Kentucky\u00a0Horse\u00a0Park\u00a0in July, it also will be the first official test for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">A four-star FEI event, the Kentucky Cup Reining offers a similar format to the Games in both nation\u2019s cup competitions and individual championships. The Nation\u2019s Cup team competition will be July 21 and the individual finals will be July 23.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u201cEvery discipline that is in the World Equestrian Games, by FEI regulations, is required to host a test event leading up to the main event,\u201d said National Reining Horse Association Executive Director Dan Wall. \u201cBy doing this test event, they can literally test the facilities and make sure the management team is prepared to run an event the magnitude of the World Games.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Nations expected to field teams include\u00a0Brazil,\u00a0Canada,\u00a0Dominican Republic,\u00a0Germany,\u00a0Great Britain,\u00a0Israel,\u00a0Italy,\u00a0Mexico,\u00a0Switzerland\u00a0and the\u00a0United States. Additionally, many nations are anticipated to send athletes for the individual competition, including\u00a0Argentina,\u00a0Australia,\u00a0Austria,\u00a0Belgium,\u00a0Czech\u00a0Republic, The Netherlands,\u00a0France,\u00a0Spain\u00a0and\u00a0Uruguay.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u201cThis is a test reining event, but the anticipation and excitement leading up to the Games in 2010 is unlike anything I\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d Wall added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Participants in the Kentucky Cup Reining will be among the first to compete in the newly opened indoor arena at the\u00a0Kentucky\u00a0Horse\u00a0Park, giving them a first glimpse at the same structures where 2010 Games reining championships will be held. This opportunity is important for all nations interested in bringing home medals from\u00a0Kentucky\u00a0in 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Tickets for the individual finals are available from the World Games Box Office<span> <\/span>at greatly reduced prices to encourage everyone to come and enjoy the relatively new FEI sport of reining. More information on how and where to buy tickets will be announced as it becomes available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Reining was added to the FEI as a discipline in 2000 and was featured for the first time in 2002 at the FEI World Equestrian Games in\u00a0Jerez,\u00a0Spain. The reining competitions at the 2006 Games in\u00a0Aachen,\u00a0Germany, launched the discipline and its athletes into fame, with sold-out performances and loud, fanatical crowds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">As the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games come to\u00a0Kentucky, the sport of reining is sure to enjoy a sort of \u201chomecoming\u201d in the\u00a0United States\u00a0as the only western discipline recognized by the FEI. Plans are under way to feature reining in new and exciting ways in 2010, including a newly approved schedule format \u2013 allowing for more public sessions of the discipline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Reining superstars like AQHA Professional Horsemen Tim McQuay, Matt Mills and Pete Kyle along with two-time FEI World Reining Masters champion Rudi Kronsteiner, 2006 World Equestrian Games individual champion Duane Latimer and NRHA\u2019s only $3 million rider Shawn Flarida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><strong>About the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are the world championships of eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Equestre Internationale (FEI). Her Royal Highness Princess Haya is the current president of the FEI. The Games are held every four years and this will be the first occurrence in the\u00a0United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">The Games will be broadcast on NBC Sports, which has marked the largest commitment to network coverage of equestrian sport in\u00a0U.S.\u00a0television history. The 2010 Games are expected to have a statewide economic impact of $150 million, and current sponsors include Alltech, Rolex, John Deere, Ariat International Inc. and Rood and\u00a0Riddle\u00a0Equine\u00a0Hospital.
