{"id":2578,"date":"2009-09-04T00:23:19","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T17:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/?p=2578"},"modified":"2009-09-04T00:23:19","modified_gmt":"2009-09-03T17:23:19","slug":"australian-vet-dies-of-rare-virus-from-horse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/industry\/australian-vet-dies-of-rare-virus-from-horse\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian vet dies of rare virus from horse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BRISBANE, Australia \u2014 An Australian veterinarian has died from a rare viral disease after treating an infected horse, becoming the fourth known fatality from the illness since it was discovered in 1994, a health official said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Queensland state Health Minister Paul Lucas said Alister Rodgers died overnight in a hospital, after treating a foal in July that was infected with the virus.<\/p>\n<p>The foal originally was thought to have died from a snake bite but Hendra was later confirmed in horses at a Queensland nursery that was subsequently quarantined.
