{"id":2629,"date":"2009-09-23T01:12:51","date_gmt":"2009-09-22T18:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/?p=2629"},"modified":"2009-09-23T01:12:51","modified_gmt":"2009-09-22T18:12:51","slug":"the-america%e2%80%99s-horse-in-art-show-and-sale-subjects-are-the-real-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ebarrelracing.com\/articles\/industry\/the-america%e2%80%99s-horse-in-art-show-and-sale-subjects-are-the-real-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"The America\u2019s Horse In Art Show and Sale Subjects Are the Real Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>America\u2019s Horse, September 18, 2009<\/em> &#8212; At a gathering of an elite group of Western artists, a couple of the younger members of the crowd began talking about using each others\u2019 horses as subjects for some new pieces they were creating for the upcoming America\u2019s Horse in Art: The Horse That Settled the West Art Show and Sale.<\/p>\n<div id=\"p23_wrap_1\">\n<p id=\"p23\" style=\"border-width: 1px; border-color: #000000;\">Now, stop and think about the reality of this plan: Not only would they eventually be using their artist\u2019s \u201ceye\u201d to critique each other\u2019s work, there\u2019d also be a personal and somewhat emotional attachment to that critique \u2013 what kind of job did each of them do to represent the other\u2019s horse?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looks OK, but you made him look a little parrot-mouthed,\u201d one was heard saying to the other at the art show opening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just paint \u2019em like I see \u2019em,\u201d the other jabbed back, with a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>Put 20 or so Western artists together in a room, and there\u2019s bound to be some good-natured prodding going on, even if they are talking about each other\u2019s work or their horses. It was just part of the relaxed atmosphere at the art show\u2019s opening, August 14.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit, located in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame &amp; Museum in Amarillo, Texas, features paintings, sketches and sculptures from nearly 25 artists including Greg Kelsey, Mark Kohler, Mikel Donahue, Buck Taylor, Bruce Graham, Teal Blake and Mehl Lawson (see below for a complete list of artists). Each piece of art has a price tag and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis through November 14. Proceeds from the sale of the art will go to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.
