Virginia&#8217;s investigation was based on evidence that PETA has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petakillsanimals.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">killed more than 25,000 dogs and cats<\/a> at its headquarters\u2014the vast majority of the dogs and cats it took in\u2014according to filings it makes with the state.<\/p>\n<p>New documents uncovered by the Center for Consumer Freedom reveal that the state of Virginia attempted to revoke People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals&#8217; (PETA) license to operate an animal shelter. Virginia&#8217;s investigation was based on evidence that PETA has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petakillsanimals.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">killed more than 25,000 dogs and cats<\/a> at its headquarters\u2014the vast majority of the dogs and cats it took in\u2014according to filings it makes with the state.<\/p>\n<p>Despite PETA\u2019s $35.8 million annual budget, the state inspector determined that PETA&#8217;s shelter &#8220;does not contain sufficient animal enclosures to routinely house the number of animals annually reported as taken into custody.&#8221; This is probably because animals in PETA\u2019s custody aren\u2019t housed for long.
