In 2012, enrolled horses earned more than $766,839 through their Breeders’ Trust achievements.

Highlights of the 2012 Breeders’ Trust payout include:

Total funds available for distribution in 2012: $766,839.11.
Total points earned in 2012: 85,545
Point value for 2012: $8.96

“The primary reason for the decline in dollars per point figure from previous years is less funds collected and more points being earned,” said Director of Breeders’ Trust Steven Imhof. “The 2012 show year was funded largely by stallion subscription fees paid in 2010, which were down by 13% compared to 2009. Also, 11,277 more points were earned in 2012 compared to 2011, lessening the point value even more. However, we are optimistic about the future of the Breeders’ Trust, and look forward to rewarding the efforts of those who enroll.”

Some positive modifications recently made to help increase payouts in the future include:

If a stallion is purchased between February 1 and June 30 of the breeding year (some exclusions apply), the stallion can be subscribed without a late fee if the stallion subscription is postmarked within 30 days of the date of purchased (based on the date of sale on the transfer). The completed and signed transfer, original registration certificate, stallion subscription requirements and proper fees must be submitted.

A stallion can now be subscribed after December 31 of the breeding year for 2 ½ times the highest advertised stud fee OR $2,500 (whichever is greater). This change is retroactive for prior breeding years for a minimum of $2,500 per year.

The weanling nomination fee has been increased to $125. However, if the foal is registered and nominated online concurrently, a discounted rate of $100 will apply.

Two familiar faces topped the Breeders’ Trust leaders lists for 2012. Forsaking most Open classes in 2012 in order to focus almost exclusively on Amateur events, Timeless Assets’ rise to the top of the Breeders’ Trust chart is even more impressive. “Tucson” became the program’s leading point-earning horse for the third-consecutive year.

A 2005 bay overo gelding, Timeless Assets is by Frozen Assets and out of This Times Divine. Charlene Maybury of West Jefferson, Ohio, bred the gelding, who is owned by Coleen Bull of Reed City, Michigan. Earning 1,358 points in 2012, Tucson netted a paycheck worth $12,173.

Tucson wasn’t the only horse to earn repeat Breeders’ Trust honors for 2012. A perennial chart-topper himself, Zippos Sensation was once again named Breeders’ Trust Leading Sire—this marked the 1993 sorrel overo stallion’s 12th time to lead the annual list.

In 2012, “Zippo” had 137 foals earn 7,627 points, good for $68,368. This represents the greatest number of point-earning foals for any No. 1 Breeders’ Trust stallion in the program’s history and the second-highest number of points earned by those foals, second only to Zippo’s get in 2011.

By Zippo Pine Bar (QH) and out of Satin N Lace, Zippos Sensation is a 1993 sorrel overo stallion bred by Joe Bachmuth of Cullman, Alabama, and owned by Simons Show Horses of Aubrey, Texas.

Breeders’ Trust checks were mailed February 25th. Download the full 2012 payout schedule, or learn more about the Breeders’ Trust at apha.com/programs/breederstrust.

Designed to reward competing Paint Horses and their owners, breeders and stallion owners, theBreeders’ Trust program has paid out more than $14,017,733.92 since its inception in 1994.
