Title: 2008 NBHA Texas State Championships!!!
Post by: Shelley Millis on June 24, 2008, 11:38:28 AM: Everything is rolling for our 2008 Texas State Show!! This year the show will be August 7-10th in Waco @ the HOT Fair Complex. We are excited to have Arena Management working with us this year for the first time! These are the same folks that help WBR run their shows show so smooth and efficiently. They will also offer interval timing reports at a discounted rate! <ROCKON>

We have some great things in the works (more details coming daily, stay tuned!) Entries are already rolling in via us mail and Equivent on a daily basis...it is looking to be a great show again this year!

We are looking forward to a great show and can't wait! FMI you can go to the NBHA Texas State website link on the ebarrelracing.com homepage, there you will find the entry form, schedule, rules, etc. >PEACE<

Post by: Shelley Millis on June 24, 2008, 11:48:53 PM: Sounds like lots of folks are "truck pooling".......these barrel races that are two or three days in a row in one location really do help out on the expenses. We have been taking our own drinks and food everywhere we go too and that really helps to cut down on the expenses of eating out everyday while out of town...especially when you have kids with you!

How much of the $8000 added in the open goes to each round and the finals?

We cruised a 22.1 on the poles and I messed up the second end pole. We made a really nice barrel run with a 16.643 and were in the bottom of the 2-D until Jordan Peterson came in on Jester and ran a 15.568. The closest time to her was a 15.8. He is doing great!

Also, if I sold him, I would not have a horse to run. My bay horse and I are just starting to get together so I would not spend that kind of money to run him there.

The $8,000 added will be split equally between the three races (two go's and finals round) in the Open 4D this year (that way we spread the wealth!)

Pattern set up will NOT be huge (takes too long!)

We have lots of people already entering, some may look at it like you get more "bang for your buck", meaning one trip of fuel equals several runs over the 4 day period.

And check it out...POLES AGAIN!!!! I love poles & have had some folks calling about the show just because we are having poles!!!! Cool! I will add money to the poles class this year too (depends on number of entries) and I am sure we will get some cool stuff sponsored again for prizes...working on it daily!

and a real alley, not the run into the gate stuff and no room to get any speed up to the first barrel.

GBA you know Shelley is going to have the pattern set up to make it go faster and smoother. You have been to enough of her barrel races. Just enter!!!! You know we have fun!

As far as the alley issue's I have been there when they ran from the back and when they ran from inside with the holding pens. Either way works well and she will make sure it is safe and fair to everyone. As far as that goes, please do not tar and feather me over this, most of us have been to WBR's and you come from a holding pen, so I am not understanding why the WBR does not get this much controversy for each one of their barrel races!?

that is one horse i miss. he is truly a consistent horse and never really hits. I might have hit 3 barrels and a few poles when I owned him. Most were my fault cause i was not letting him work

We hit a few poles in the beginning because I had to learn to let him do it and leave him alone. I can't remember the last time we hit a pole. I feel sure he will never leave me, especially since we are moving up into the 2-D now!

I have a feeling we dont complain abotu WBR's holding pen because you either love it or hate it...there are enough folks that dont care or love it to make it work. I do know however, that since there are 3 BIG races (Destry's, WBR and NBHA) the month of August, I had to pick one. It will be cheaper for me to enter WBR....But, some folks rather run State...Really, I think that with all the choices we havy, we should not "pcik" on anyone because if we dont like it, we can go somewhere else!!!! I wish I could go to all 3!!!! <DUMMY ME>

The short pattern allows for the 60-70 per hour, otherwise, you have to wait for people to get up the long alley and some stop at the front of the alley and walk out.

I couldn't have said it any better :(((( Either way.... it should be a Hot time in Waco :ROFL2: One thing for sure is when Shelley and the crew start something it is AWESOME!!!! I better get to picking up those aluminum cans to get entry fee's together.... :ROFL2:

When I enter a large barrel race, I go to barrel race, be with my friends, have fun and if I am fortunate enough to win money that is a plus. I understand that everyone has their concerns and trust me I would never bash the WBR, I enter them myself for the reasons I stated above. GBA- I do understand what you mean about needing more help and we appreciated everybody that jumped right in to help last year. And I agree with ez - Shelley did an excellent job last year considering the little time she had to organize it, so this year can only be better.....I just was stating that she would never set the pen up to take all night long or have an alley way that would get anyone hurt. She is our state director but first she was one of us!!!! I hope I did not offend anyone with my question about the WBR that was not my intentions nor was it my intention to make anyone feel like I was directing the question at them. :cheeze: Well ya'll know that old saying curiosity kill the cat, I better go pet the kitty before it goes byebye!!!! Hope to see all of ya'll at state, it is gonna be AWESOME!

Some like it short, some like it long, etc. I love to see "new" people and horses show their stuff. It renews everyones faith that it could be YOU....... <ROCKON>

How exciting!!!!! It has been busy busy around here getting ready for Waco!!!! Entries are rolling in & lots of vendors coming!!! It seems that since the holiday weekend has passed folks are now really getting everything they need lined up for the 2008 Texas State show....like I said...EXCITING!!!!!

They are not rejoining NBHA after this year so she wanted to run 3 or 4 horses in her last year in youth. Of course, Adrian and I will HAVE to come watch her run and visit with Ginny!

I will have State Show entry forms there & you can turn them in while in Wharton if you like...remember if you are mailing them in, have them postmarked by July 21st. You can also of course still enter online!

You can enter online until July 28th! After that all entries will be at the show with cash only please! I had tons of entries turned in this weekend...better get to work on that now!!!

Also, again this year we will have the Knight Equine saddle raffle tickets to sell at the show!!!! The saddle will be awarded Sunday! Anyone can buy raffle tickets for the saddle.

one of my customer's horses....should he sell between now and the time I enter, can I substitute another horse??
I have no idea if that will happen or not, but it has, and I guess I need to know.

We have some return vendors and some new ones too, it is sizing up to be a great show guys!!!

Remember, you can still enter online or walk up enter at the show with cash and a one time $25 late fee per rider.

The exhibitions will start selling at 9am on Thursday morning and will likely sell out within an hour, so if you can't get there at 9am or soon there after, send your money for someone else to buy them for you!

Courtney...its full hook ups....make sure (this is FOR EVERYONE!) REMEMBER TO BRING A SPLITTER for your water hose. If you remember, you have people on the back of the chain link who have to get water and there aren't enough ways to hook a waterhose up. Mom went down last year on Wednesday afternoon....Now I don't know if that is ok this year....Shelly'd be the one to ask about that.....but I know my mom usually goes really early because she has those artificial knees and walking alot kicks her butt....so she gets there very early most times to try to
get a spot that is easiest for her situation.

The draw will be up by Friday, Jerry is just waiting on me to get all of the entries finished up and into him. We already have more than last year not even counting late entries at the show!!!

We will be selling stalls out of the show office starting at 6pm Wednesday evening. You will take your reciept over to the stall office and get them to unlock for you. If you already bought a stall then you will be on our list of pre paid stalls in the stall office. If you need to add stalls once you get there, that is fine just come to the show office. Stalls will be assigned as people come in, not before hand.

We will not open the show office before 6pm on Wednesday!!! We will need some time to unload our own horses and set up before the office will open. THANKS!

Can you clarify some questions involving the Youth race? For the folks that are coming in just to run Youth on Saturday or even the Seniors on Friday night how will you all handle the start time. In other words if the Open on Saturday is over at 4:00 will you wait until 6:00 to start the Youth? Will you all have an hour break between one race and the next one? We are driving in from Austin for Youth and are trying to time it. Any guidance on time would be greatly appreciated.

We will work the ground and go right into the Youth or Seniors. In the Youth and Seniors there are several carry overs from the Open so it will not take too long to run them.

We will have 8 hours of exhibition, $5 each, sign up for what time you need to go in 30 minute increments. You can buy as many as you want, cash only, 60 sec. time limit on each exhibition.

As far as sign up for Open 4D, you must be entered before the last 75 horses in the Open on FRIDAY. If you choose not to run on Friday, just on Saturday, that is fine but the entry fee is the same either way.
There will not be any Open 4D entries allowed after the 75th horse from the end runs on Friday (the 1st go).

I've got a couple of pink shirts we are going to try to see if Caye can wear...one is pink and black checked, pink is not real easy to see but it has pink.
If they let you wear plain T-shirts I've got that covered.
I bet they don't drop the dress code. It is my understanding for pictures to be the Barrel Horse News magazine they have to be dress code. Now I could be wrong about that so please don't flame me.

I can not help it but my horse is used to seeing purple bags everywhere. That dang TC leaves them all over the place.
