2004 Bayou Classic gives out over $20,000!
November 6-7, 2004

New Iberia, LA


The 2004 Southwest Feed Bayou Classic paid out $17,292 in cash with 439 contestants competing during the weekend of November 6th and 7th at the Acadiana Fairgrounds SugArena in New Iberia, LA. There was a total of $5,000 added to the event bringing contestants from several states together. Contestants enjoyed unique Cajun cuisine and hospitality at our hosts Best Western of New Iberia, and R & M’s Boiling Point. Awards were given to those contestants that were “just a tad too fast” for the 2D, 3D, and 4D as well as those contestants that were a “tad too slow”, or one out of the money in each division. GIST trophy buckles were presented to the average winners along with awards through 5th place in each division. Cash and prizes presented for the weekend totaled over $20,000!

Major sponsors of the event included Southwest Feed & Farm Supply of Youngsville, LA, Nutrena Feed, Sub Surface Tools of Morgan City, LA, Horseman Store & Trailer Sales of Lafayette, LA, Dupuy’s Animal Hospital of New Iberia, and Fruitland Produce of Baton Rouge. Other sponsors included SugArena Fuelbase, Acadiana Fairgrounds, Aggreko, and B&T Feed. Cowboy Magic, Shapleys, DJ Reveal, The Branding Iron, Barrel Horse News, Acadiana Ford, Regional Fabricators, and Benny G’s Feed & Farm also showed their support. Acadiana Barrel Racing Association hosted the weekend of barrel racing.

The first run on Saturday was won by Jennifer Wilson of Terry, MS aboard Bit Of Bugs N Flit with a 15.355 for $584. 2D winner was Fancy Girl ridden by Susie Read of Kountze, TX with a 15.879. The pair took home $518. Carli Hebert of St Martinville, LA ran a 16.359 on Miss Alabama Sue and won the 3D for $387. The 4D winner was Chaz Maturin of Youngsville, LA with a 17.374 good for $322.

On Sunday, youth barrel racer Ashley Broussard of Youngsville, LA brought the crowd to their feet running a 15.272 aboard Mr Moon Drop, winning the1D and $579. Dawn Hankins of Clinton, LA won the 2D aboard Deloy’s Delight with a 15.795. The pair took home $516 for their efforts. Ellen Guidry of Houma, LA ran her horse BB Aletas Star to win the 3D for $390 with a 16.273. Sonnys Cowboy Cash, ridden by Katie Hanks of Duson, LA, ran a 17.283 to win the 4D and $327.

The Mississippi team of Jennifer Wilson and Bit Of Bugs N Flit finished the weekend by winning the 1D average with a 15.367. Winning the 2D average with a 15.872 was Sara Arceneaux of Carencro, LA and her horse DF Mercedes Lady. Taylor Matte and Leo McQue of Lafayette, LA won the 3D average with a 16.388. The 4D average win went to Jo Boudreaux of Church Point, LA and her horse Crockett.

Jennifer Wilson was the high money winner taking home $1,537 along with a Gist trophy buckle and collapsible cart for the average. Other high money winners for the weekend included Susie Read with $1,022, Tami Purcell winning $800, Mary Ann Barrow winning $789 and Ashley Broussard bringing home $711.
