PURINA BARREL BLAST EXPLODES WITH SUCCESS
By: Anna Bierman

“RECORD BREAKING” is the best words to describe the explosive action at the 2005 Purina Barrel Blast and Trade Show held in Katy, Texas May 20th-22nd.  Over $41,000 was paid out for this show and 1,329 contestants made this an all time high for BBP.  Although Southeast Texas hosted an early scorch of weekend heat that topped the record books but the weather wasn’t all that was HOT!

Making their public debut at the very first Barrel Blast Luncheon Fashion Show were the Ariat Fat Bucks in sizzling new colors of Teal, Lime, and Denim (distributed by D&D Western Wear of Tomball).  Misslette The Singing Cowgirl (courtesy of Steinhausers) serenaded guests until the Models lit up the runway with trade show fashions by D&D Western Wear, Ariat, Barrel Apparel (record sales at BB2005), Julie’s Glitz & Glam, Rodeo Rocks, Silver Shack, DW Racing Graphics, Lazy S Cowboy Crafts, and Texas Crystal Creations (record sales at BB2005).  Lucky drawing winners, from the mere $12 admission tickets, took home Prizes of over $1200 combined.  Elizabeth Nail Mary Kay Cosmetics did an awesome job enhancing our Model’s beauty and provided great skin care/cosmetic prize packs that were given to drawing winners during the weekend.  Luncheon Director Kay Kroll and Fashion Show Manager Ashli Lowery proved what a winning team of Barrel Blasters can do – the Luncheon Fashion Show was an absolute success!.

Friday night books opened an hour earlier so more folks could exhibition.  Lines were long and questions were many but the evening soon revealed an array of winners and Prizes galore!  Novice Riders who have not won over $1000 in their lifetime were given a class all to themselves and it was Andrea Burkett aboard Hustlers Lady Leo who took home the champion status with a 16.257.  See full results for all Novice Rider winners.

The Friday night jackpot was a slam-dunk for Jana Riley and Boons with a smokin 15.537.  Friday night winners enjoyed many Prizes including over $2000 worth of Necessity products and over $3000 worth of Cowboy Magic, Rio Vista, Horse Power, Corta Flex, Oxy-Boost, and many items from our vendors that were donated for Prizes.

The 2005 Purina Barrel Blast Champion was Purina’s very own Tami Purcell and Elected Official a/k/a Elliot who ran a 15.518 – the fastest time of the entire show!  Dusky Fellers and Rockin became the 2D Champs, Shay Goudeau and Derby captured the 3D champion title, and Jeanne Foy with Piggin Freckles took home the 4D championship.  Following the Saturday Open race we got to finish out the WPRA Divisional Tour paying 10 places worth almost $3000 and learned that 3 of our riders filled their Permits at our show – way to go!

A survey of winning contestant’s feed preferences revealed that Purina feeds and Ultium really is a choice of Champions.  To learn more about Purina and Ultium please visit www.purinamills.com or contact D&D Feed Supply of Tomball, TX at 281-351-7144 … tell em Barrel Blast Cincha!
