Laura called me from the vet's office this evening...Grinder appears to have West Nile Virus but we'll know for sure after the results from the blood work come in. Laura is staying with him overnight at the vet. Will update when there is more information. Thanks for all prayers.

Oh No! Laura and Grinder have special places in my memory. At Marshall, three years ago, De$try, Laura and I were talking at the back of her trailer when Grider bent down, took a mouthfull of sand and spit in into Laura's face. We had to hold Laura down and pour water into her eyes. It is funny now looking back yet a firm memory for me.
Please keep us updated.

Cold n Classy was getting text messages from Laura. They have Grinder on some iv's and he is getting calmer but (and is getting some control back).

I am so thankful for your prayers and thoughts.
Grinder has been down this wicked road before when he broke his hip. His heart is what brought him back and I know it will get him through this. He has made some small improvements and the vets are very pleased with that.
He has regained control of his pupils, he is calmer, and is moving a little better. These are very small changes to his condition but they are positives. He still does not know where his back legs and he looks like a drunk horse when he tries to walk. His appetite is good and he was in tip top shape so those are pluses.
When he laid down around 2 am I laid my head on his neck and cried myself to sleep. The vets did not want him to go down because they did not know if he could get back up. About 5:30 he started to move around and he got up on his own. It wasn't pretty but he did it. He is a tuff little horse.
I could not help but to think of what the Barbaro's owner said about " All the pain is worth it.......... to get love so deep". Those words rang so true to me last night.
I am home to take a nap and then I am heading to a rodeo. Colonel and I are gonna make this run tonite for Grinder. The vets are giong to call me tonite and let me know how is. I will head back up there in the morning. Please keep us in your prayers!

Dear Lord, please lay Your healing hands upon Grinder. Help him to understand that there are all these people trying to help him. We know that You care deeply about all of Your creatures and I think especially so for those that have someone to love them and love back. Please help Laura keep faith in Your healing powers and give her comfort at this time. We praise your name! In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Grinder at Lone Star Equine Animal Hospital....I just received a text message from Laura this morning stating that sadly there haven't been any further changes in Grinder. Dr. Williams has been on vacation but they were calling him in this morning. Yesterday when I spoke with her Grinder had regained control of his pupils and was a lot calmer. He was still having trouble getting up but he's eating well and all that.
I will keep everyone posted as I talk to her. Grinder is tough....Good Lord isn't ready for any new horses right now so I'm sure he'll be as tough as always and pull through....just keep the prayers coming! We all know what it's like to be SO attached to your animals! They grow to be like our kiddos that's for sure!!

So sorry to hear the sad news about Grinder. It is a hard road to go down, I've been there. Just a few words of encouragement......My horses are vaccinated for everything annually, but that does not mean they can't get sick. My gelding Toby was raised by my family from a 2 week old, after his mother died, so you can imagine the attachment. At 5 he came down with West Nile. It is a horrible, debilitating disease. Toby fought with all his heart to live, me & my husband took off work to stay with him 24/7. After 7 days of him being down & us turning him to keep him alive, he had a stroke. He fought so hard that we just could not put him down. I did allot of soul searching and prayed that I was doing the right thing. He could not tell me if he was ready to give up, but I wasn't ready to lose him. Toby did finally pulled through, he is 9 now, and though the vets say I can ride him, I haven't. He seems fine and is healthy, and now our studs pasture buddy. I'm glad to see him standing there and nickering at me when I pull up. I wish you all the best and will pray for you & Grinder. I'm sure you know him better than anyone, so just listen to your heart and you will make the right decisions. <LUV>

Laura sorry we didn't get to talk much last night. We where trying to get ready and watch the locals getting pulled out of the mud next to Leslie's trailer. We where sorry to hear about that. It is a bad deal and I have seen one go down. I hope everything is ok. Like you said he has a lot of heart and if you need anything let me know.

Prayer for Grinder for a full recovery. Happended to a friend of mine in Elgin who has all her horses vaccinated. Her sons rope horse started acting strange took him to the vet and the poor guy was misdiagnosed for almost 3 weeks!!! He has made a full recovery now thank god.. no one uses him anymore due to other obligations but he is fine and hopefully the grandson may be able to rope off him someday.

There are no changes. He is no better and he is no worse. He is not eating their grain so I will take his up there today. Please keep those prayers going!

There is no change in Grinders condition. I took Colonel by there yesterday and before they could see each other they must have picked up on their scents, and started calling to each other. They were nickering to eeach other and I could not get Colonel off the trailer quick enough. I took him to the stall and opened the door, Colonel talked to him for at least 5 minutes and licked all over him. Grinder perked up and that was a great blessing! I bought both horses from the same man and they have been together for most of their lives.
Please keep those prayers going! Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts too. This has been real hard on my family. The blood work should be back Thursday or Friday.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Please keep them going....... they are working. Colonel and I stopped by to visit him again yesterday. He is doing better! He still has the head tilt and is still not real steady on his feet but he is alot better then he was a week ago. They blood work came back negative for WNV so they are checking for ENV and some others. There is also a new blood test for EPM that we should have the results back on that in a few days. We did test him for PSSM and that also came back negative. We are now leaning towards acute EPM.
He has lost alot of weight but he is getting around so much better and the look in his eyes is 10 times better. I am hoping to get to bring him home some time this week. I hated to leave him there yesterday. Colonel felt the same way..... He did not want to load, it took me 3 attempts to get him to get on the trailer. Colonel has never ever not loaded. He too really is ready for his buddy to come home.
Once again thanks so much for your prayers. There are no words to describe how much I value each and every one them.

Thanks dear..... I saw your rig several times last week but never ran into you and Nick. I don't know about you but I thought it was beautiful there and I hated to leave. Would be a great place for a summer home.

Many prayers for you and Grinder!! Just a word of encouragement - my horse Jay Bird broke his hip in 2002, battled two serious cases of EPM in 2003 and 2004 and bounced back just fine. I mean it took time, but he came back...just keep praying and believing!!

The test came back negative on the EPM too.... So now we are still in the dark has to what he has. He does get to go home today so that is great news!

Glad Grinder gets to come home today....keep me posted! Good to see you Saturday night....didn't catch you before you left. When we got ready and went to the arena, you were in the shower. We had a blast at dinner....Greg and I ate at Sharon Allen's on Sunday when we left the arena....it was incredible also!
We didn't get anything done Sunday so it's a good thing we paid for our trip on Saturday!!! :)/\\ :)/\\ :)/\\ He was tickled to death!
Keep us informed on Grinder!!! That's a real mystery on what it could be if they've ruled out EPM and WNV......keep the positive faith girl....he'll bounce back!!!!

I'm sure you've checked, but did he get stung on his spine or something?? It came on so suddenly like a bite or a sting.......maybe he rolled and damaged his spine........just take a good look.
Still praying for your boy. I guess you heard about Beau....that's why I haven't called.....been nursing him.
