Please pray for one of our very own board members on here. She will come on and comment if she wants her name here but we all know her very well. I'm on getting her into M.D.Anderson Cancer Center here in Houston. (((((((HUGS))))))))

Okay, Deb I will tell.
It is me. I was at my gyno dr getting ready for my rush hysterectomy and my dr noticed a lump on my throat. After the surgery he sent me to a throat specialist for a needle biopsy. He sent the tissue and fluid to the lab and they said I need to have half of my thyroid removed and sent off to see if it is cancer. I am terrified to have my neck cut on.
And thanks to Deb she is trying to help me get into MD Anderson. I feel my doctor is good but I would rather go there if I even think it might be cancer. I am waiting to see if they will take me.
Everyone on this board is wonderful! Thanks so much for the prayers!!!

My sister-in-law had this same type of cancer. She went to MD Anderson, they removed her thyroid last Spring and she was on a special diet (I think a low or no iodine diet???) Anyways...she is doing great and just had a clean check up last month!
Yes you can see the scar but whats a scar when you have LIFE!! Prayers for you and your family!!!

Brhorses...7 years ago I went through the exact same thing. I had a lump in my throat. I went through the needle biopsy. They could not tell if the lump was cancerous or not. They removed the left side of my thyroid. I was in the hospital for 2 days. While there they did a biopsy of the lump. THANK GOD it was not cancer. Just a rather large goiter (sp?). I now have a 3 inch scar on my throat...most people do not even notice it unless I point it out. I do have to take synthroid everyday for the rest of my life, since removing half of my thyroid. But I would much rather have to take a pill then have to deal with what the alternative could have been.
I know that we do not know each other, but if you have any questions, just pm me. I would be more than happy to pass on any of my knowledge to you. I know exactly what you are going through...I'll be thinking and praying for you. All will be all right!!!!

Yea running the cans! You are the answer to prayers! Having someone to talk to that has gone through the same thing is a huge relief. At least she will know exactly what to expect. Brhorses is such a sweetheart, ya ll need to get together and talk, you will love her! I thank Debhorses for introducing us, I have made the best friends through introductions! :look:

Prayers to brhorses.....
No lumps on my thyroid, but mine screwed up so bad, they nuked it about 5 years ago and have been on synthroid for that many years. I just have to remember to take the dang thing every day!

I mean it when I say to get with me if you have any questions or need someone to talk to. I pretty much went through it by myself. Of course my family was there, but no one had ever been thorugh anything even close to this.
I remember there was 1 lady at work whose husband had his removed, so at least I had someone that I could ask if I had questions.
I live out in Katy...not sure where you are at brhorses, but a phone call only takes seconds to make.
I'm here if ya need me....

Hey br...I had that done too! It was a cold nodule. They just removed that thryoid and I have to take thyroid pills for the rest of my life. I'm sure you'll have good results too. Too many people praying. hang in there girl.
Oh btw...forgot to mention that if they do have to remove your thyroid, you aren't allowed any crawfish, margaritas or any type of sweets for the rest of your life. That's the only downside! ;)

I have no thyroid anymore and take levoxyl everyday. They told me no iodine, but no MARGARITAS? No one told me that, whats the use of living? I'm crushed!

They did not have to remove my thyroid, it just doesn't work, but I did have a tumor removed and it was benign and all was good. Your in good hands and the power of prayer and friendship is awesome so you hang in there. Let me know if you need anything, I can bring some Mexican food to you, it is iodine free!

You have always been so nice........ I was telling someone the other day that when I first started back barrel racing I had a dumb colt I bought that wouldn't come in the pen. Everytime I was so upset and about to give up there would come your Dad and help me in the pen. I think when he heard them call my name it was time to come rescue me! He was always my life saver!

Yeah, crawfishes happens to be one of my favorites, but being seasonal, I can have them and not feel too guilty. Just can't eat too many at one time, but no ritas? That's an after barrel race tradition (in the making) and I have enjoyed having one (yes only one, well sometimes two) with my buds.

Hey! I wanted to put my 2 cents worth in here. I went through the same thing in 2000. Did the radioiodine uptake scan, needle biopsy and both came back inconclusive. They did surgery, removed 1/2 my thryoid & sent it off to be tested while I was still on the operating table. It was determined that it was cancer and they went ahead and removed the whole darn thyroid. It was papillary cancer, Stage I. I went ahead and did the radiation treatment (I might reconsider that today as there is some research possibly linking radiation treatment with breast cancer). I am cancer-free. I take Synthroid every day...well usually (when I remember). I see my endocrinologist regularly, as they like to monitor those meds often.
All is good. I didn't understand what my doctor was saying to me when he said, "Papillary cancer is the best cancer to have". I was devastated, but now, after being around others with much worse cancers, I understand what he meant. I am lucky. I cheated death, in a sense, and can live my life to it's fullest now.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I was terrified to have them cut on my neck, but the anesthesiologist fixed me a great cocktail to make me forget all about the surgeon slitting my throat! It was the easiest surgery I've ever gone through. Don't worry too much!

I can't tell you how many times he's come to my rescue! He IS a life saver. He thinks so much of you and Charlie, always enjoyed visiting with him at the barrel races. Remember he is a cancer survivor (not that yours is cancer, we are staying positive about that) and he can tell us all about the radiation. Keeping positive thoughts and holding on to your faith and your friends will make this so much easier. I'm so glad your feeling better about it all. Thank goodness you can still have 'rita's. Enough of them and u won't even want any mudbugs!
Taking the synthroid everyday isn't all that hard. I've been doing it so long it's just habit, take it when I brush my teeth every morning that way I can't forget. I have my levels checked every four months but I can usually tell by the way I feel if they are off. I get tired and irritable and my hair gets thin and I usually gain a little weight. (man, I'm making this sound so attractive, huh!)

I just got my records to them yesterday. My hysterectomy dr recomended a dr there. The only thing is I just found out that MD Anderson might not be in my insurance's network. I have Aetna and if they are not in-network I have to pay 30%.
That might be too much for me. I might need to go to the other DR. <(::)>
I am not having a good morning. I am freaking a little. I wake up every morning about 4 or 5 burning hot and nervous. My dr said it was nerves and not the hormones he has me on. I am trying to think positive but it still goes thru my mind it might be cancer. And now my throat hurts! Probably all in my mind! I am suppose to go back to work next week so I can save the time for when I have surgery. It is going to be hard feeling like this! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!
Okay!!! I am going to feel bettter now!!!! BB)

My dr said the hormones he put me on are fine and it is just my nerves. <(::)> Tell someone you have to get spayed right away and 4 weeks later tell them this lump in your neck needs to come out and you might have cancer! YEA!!!! I am a little nervous!!!

BR I think you have every right to be a nervous wreck! I would too.. but I'm sure everything will be fine.. just calm down and let the meds do their job.... maybe some crawfisshesss will do you some good? and of course someone needs to be there to help Deb not get stuck in the neighbors yard..... ya'll have fun!!
