a blind hog sometimes finds an acorn as my dad use to say. went to a jackpot today and won the 5 d. i thought about all the things you said and just rode my horse like i know i can. had lots of room for improvment so i know we can do better.anyway just wanted to say thanks .everbody needs a pep talk . hope your weekend got better. be safe going home <THANK YOU!> <THANK YOU!>

That's funny about the younger days..............Laura and I pro rodeoed together and never officially met until Waco this summer. I am saddened that I missed out on so many years of a great friendship. We're making up for it now though.l :cheeze:

She should be getting close to home. I talked to her some time ago and she was like 3 hours from her house........ I told her tonight if my daughter signs with Abilene Christian I am moving in with Laura so I can be close to Cheyenne. as well to do a lecture on teeth probs and evaluate your horses perhaps. I've done a few clinics in the past and Joleen was at each
of them. They were lots of fun and this should be no different....WILL THIS BE A PARTY? or a clinic....I have only one request....

Seriously remember this! You might have no support system with your barrel racing or you may have the best support system but nothing works mentally
if you don't believe in yourself! Everytime you run, you have to believe. And I'm not talking about trying to make yourself believe that you are going to win the darn thing, I'm talking about believing in your horse and what you know and making the best run YOU CAN MAKE that day. Every thought, every bit of body language is what the horse picks up on. If you are not confident, he will not be confident...Say to yourself when you get to the barrel race...I ride this horse EVERY DAY. I know my horse. I did the work. Now I am going in there to make the best run I possibly can for this day.
Then when its over. Remember you can't rehash your run right then and there. Your mind is not clear. Come out of the arena and find one good thing
that you did during that run and congratulate yourself! Ask Cy....when I was done yesterday...and little bit had some problems....Ask her what I said...
I said, "well things didn't go exactly right but man did I hustle that horse....I was riding the heck out of him...I never quit kicking or driving"....Pat yourself
on the back right then! You may have no one to tell it to, but tell yourself! Good Job!! I don't care if the best thing you did was not fall off....Good Job!!
You have to build your own ego...no one does that for you....remember that....if it didn't go well, you will go home and fix it. The barrel race is over,

You should be thinking about only your first run right now....Think about how it felt to send him out there, and how responsive he was to what you asked. Think
about all the good things that you did. Now sit down and write down what you think you could've improved on. Write it down...take 5 minutes and write it down. Read it about 3 times and throw it in the trash can. And be done with it. You just threw the junk you wrote down from your brain into the trash can. Its trash now, so go ride your horse this week, and be happy! :cheeze:

Also...I want to give some prizes...the last clinic I gave, we gave everyone who attended a bucket full of goodies...useful stuff--not junk.
I gave breast collars away to Most Improved, Best Hands, Best Attitude, Hardest Horse to Ride, and a buckle to Clinic Champion in the Jackpot...I took the D winners and drew for the buckle. My 4D girl won it! She was so tickled and wears that buckle everywhere she goes! Everyone could enter the barrel race but only clinic people eligible for buckle. It was lots of fun and we had it in Gatesville one year, here one year down the road, and I've given a few out of state.

learn...I don't care if its 30 bucks or a 100 bucks...I want to donate the money to Tamet and Bob for Ben's behalf. I do want to give
away some stuff....because its ALWAYS more fun with some STUFF involved....it may not be fancy...but here's what we could do...
If each of you that comes to the clinic gets one donation of something neat....and brings it to the clinic, I could distibute the prizes back
out to someone new for AWARDS!! Hows that for potluck? hahahaha....and I possiblyyyyyy could get a buckle donated I believe...hmmm...

Yes...I think it should be open to only ebarrel forum members...so as long as they have a forum name and one post...they are in. Do the barrel race as an open jackpot, to raise some more money for Ben...but clinic girls only eligible for buckle.

What happened to LB?
I pulled this from another post....so you would know what I said....
They made me wait it felt like an eternity back there....CY is right...poor little bit's blood pressure was boiling...
Ask Cy...he really wanted to go...right then and I had to pull him up. I gave alittle thought to his run on the way home. I don't see him as
a true bleeder. I think his blood pressure was to the point of popping and when I started walking him back to the trailer after picking up
Joker in the warm up pen, that is when I noticed blood. Perhaps a blood vessel popped. When I came out I never looked down at his
heel, CY and I were talking, and she went one way and I went another. When I stepped off him and ungirted him blood was squirting out
on my pants....I took him back to the trailer and washed that foot off and ended up wrapping it with some vet wrap to keep it from bleeding.
He had a bad day and I really felt sorry for him because that little horse tries his heart out to please me.

Well we will do alittle checking on some stuff....and I guess the date is set and that's a start.
I've been on here most of the day becuz i had a upset stomach/headache today...there was a bug going around up there this weekend.

Ok...just my thought on a jackpot....in the past in the clinics I've given that didn't have a jackpot I was able to do more Sunday work
with the students...tell you how. We rode all day Saturday...early in the morning til wee hours in the evening. The next day, we do a
morning of tuneup work---the work I'd want you to do to your horse the day before you went to a barrel race which shows you how to tune
before a run depending on what your horse has been doing. Then we have our own little jackpot (just students, no entry fees, no pressure--just keep time) and film the runs...we usually break for lunch, come back and watch the runs, and then we go back out in the arena and we tune the horse back up after a run by using what we saw in the video (that you or he did) to better prepare for your next trip out. I hand out the awards and we all go home. That has worked well in the past. Alot of people like it because they want that extra something there that shows them how to tune that horse after a run....and I can help them after that run unlike if we had a real barrel race...With it going on we couldn't go back in the arena and work.
My thought is just to keep this light, simple and FUN. I'm gonna have fun helping you guys, and hopefully you will learn something you didn't know....heck I might just learn something too...even if that something is just "stay out of boogerville"!!

the RCA finals in Bossier City,La..I have been after this win for AWHILE Usually i'll start off hot and win 3-4 rodeos and then my horse gets sick or hurt and I end up 2nd or 3rd for the year end...its happened the last 3 years! This year I didn't make the first 3 rodeos and won 3 of 4 rodeos i've been to. Just have one to go this weekend and a 3 go rodeo in Mobile,Al in mid October.
Running the big horse I was on helping you..he is kind of old LOL he's 14! I just had the german martingale on him so he wouldn't think we were running, when I pulled it off he went to hoping around, lunging and thinking GGGOOOO.

this is going to be a great get away for me .. I have not run barrels since 2004 and I have not been to a clinic since 1999. I know my man Petey wont be ready for the pattern in November but I am so excited to get away and be able to ride my own horse the way I want to and have fun with the girls again!

DTA I am working on posting something for you about the tshirts. I can't do two things at once. GB said something about vendors. I have a guy that works on my horse. He does Equine Body Works. He is not a CHIRO. I think he is better than a chiro. He does the stuff like Thumper does. Some of you might have heard of him. He knows lots of pro girls. His name is Dan Wolfe. I could ask him if he would be willing to come out for the clinic if anyone thought they would use him. He would probably like to do at least 5 horses. I think he charges $75 a horse. Believe me it works..............Let me know your input. I will check to see if he would even be interested.

Yup, I guess they are saying I got the top................Laura, we bought one at TSC 7500 watts for $1,000 and it is awesome. It has electric start and everything. It is on wheels. Glynn said nicest one we have ever had. I know it probably is more than you want to spend but might as well do it right if you are going to do it. I am tired cause I starting to sound crazy I think. I still haven't eaten lunch. I'm waiting for What a burger :cheeze:

As far as start time...if we go with just starting...no meet n greet breakfast that morning...I would like everyone saddled by 8:30 and horses tied in arena....we will have a little lecture at 9am and everyone can visit alittle for 30 minutes before we start.....sounds early...but we have alot to do...I gave a clinic in Gatesville a couple of years ago and I was literally either riding a horse or walking on foot for 15 hrs out there...
we had 17 girls.

Peeps. I have to clean the kitchen. my husband came back from the fair and asked me what I had done. I said planned a barrel racing clinic. I told him I did two loads of laundry, that is real laundry. He said where is it. I said one in the dryer and one in the washer. :ROFL2: :ROFL2: No dishes got washed. I told her to get her butt over here and ride a mare I had and she didn't feel good and didn't tell me til she got here....or what Cait had this weekend when I was gone to Ardmore (she was sick to tummy and ran 101-102 fever--but i have no fever) or what that girl I helped on Sunday had....she looked like she was gonna faint right off her horse when she came ridin by on this grey horse....I said, whoa are you ok? And she was like...noooo....I told her to get off and I'd lead her horse up
because she was 20 out....I didn't even know her name...poor girl was so sick that she didn't even know me but willingly gave me the horse.
