As much as he does to keep the whole family involved, I don't see a problem.....since it is a family sport, I think it falls on the contestants to just use their judgement on how tacky they may or may not want to be.  Bobby has done some WONDERFUL things at these barrel races and I think it would be funny to watch this! Especially when in November in Oklahoma, you always have the possibility of REALLLLLLY cold weather!!!!  <COLOR GRIN>

It is meant to be a fun thing.  Bobby tries to keep things fun at all of his events and it is just another way of doing so.  He also has egg tosses, hula hooping, frisbee toss and various other activities.   8)

There's something for everyone, all ages.  A Kidz Corral for the kiddo's who are there.  Seem's to me that Mr. Barter is doing everything he can to make it an exciting experience for everyone.

As far as the bikini race, that will be a hoot!  And a good chunk of change to boot!

Please remember that at the same time the bikini race is goiing one, the children are having a super stick horse race in an area away from the bikini racers.  And there is a super great prize for the winner of the stick horse race and we have painted and decaled the little bitty barrels you saw us use for our stick horse race in Belton.  The barrels are red and just kid sized.....and I want the prize myself...yet I can not convince Bobby nor TC that I am more than just a kid at heart.......kidds...you are gonna love this stick horse race.

I think this is the kind of thing Mr. Barter has done for several years while in the roping business. I know my best friend said they (Mr. Barter) paid her nephew's entry fees at a roping if he agreed to wear pink boxers, hat and boots and rope like that all day (nothing else). Its just entertainment.

Title: Re: Bikini Barrel Race
Post by: b-racerbabe on October 20, 2006, 03:57:19 PM
My thoughts about the bikini barrel race are that barrel racing is sport should be respected as such.  Barrel racing involves young girls and young boys - not just adults.   It concerns me when the message our young girls get is always about sex and showing off their bodies.  Trust me, I enjoy fun, but one of the repsectable aspects of the sport of barrel racing is that it is a sport that doesn't require being sexual and having a hot body.  I know this bikini barrel race is meant to be "fun" and I understand there will be side events for "children" - but we all know that young girls and boys will see the race.

I wish women would stop allowing  everything they do to eventually become about "what kind of body" they have and "how much they can show".  Personally, I don't care anything about seeing another woman's fake boobs flop out of her swim suit top.   Since barrel racing is a sport consisting of mostly women - why does Bobby think women want to see other women racing in bkinis?  Does he have an interest in seeing  men play football in g-strings?  <DUMMY ME>  Yes, Bobby has put together great prizes and lots of fun events.  I'm wanting to win a truck and cash money as much as anyone!  But that doesn't make this idea right.   I just think the bikini barrel race is disrespectful of the sport.   Everywhere we look - everywhere our young girls and children look - the message is women must have a hot body - with everything showing - in order to "be somebody".    Cheerleading used to be about talent and skill...  Now its as much about showing bellies and boobs while dancing like a stripper.  Sorry, but I'm tired of the message we're sending to the young girls.  Now...it's making it's way into the sport of barrel racing.

Please don't reply to me that this is meant to be "fun" and that I - and anyone else that doesn't agree with the idea of a bikini barrel race should just "turn the other way".  I'm planning to attend this event to have fun - as much as anyone.  I'm simply wanting to keep barrel racing the respectable sport - consisting of mostly women - that people like Martha Josey made it.

Just for the record, I go to the gym on a regular basis and I enjoy "looking good" like most women.   I don't mean to stir everyone up - but just as all those "in favor of"  <ROCKON>have a right to voice their thoughts - so should those "against" <(::)> the idea.  Please be respectful of a different opinion.  I've read all of your opinions and I know you're all looking forward to a good time.   I know the bikini barrel race will happen - obviously - but it should be late at night - not at 6:30.

<ROCKON>I T-Totally agree with your post.  I also wondered why anyone would think women would want to watch women in bikini's.  I agree with your post b-racer-babe.  I was afraid I would get bashed since the other poster told me to just look the other way when this race was held, so I did not dare post all my thoughts.

Like you said, who would have ever thought something like this would be in barrel racing?

I don't think it's the hottest body that wins, I think it's the fastest time. What's wrong with seeing people in bikini's? When I take my kids swimming we see all kinds of people in all kinds of swimsuits and they don't think anything of it. I'm sure you will have a great time otherwise at the WBR. Just think during those 20 runs you can check out the cool venders. Good Luck!!

easyturn & b-racerbabe
I am proud of both of you for not being afraid to post your opionions.  The bikini barrel race would be a bit demeaning for me "personally", hence you won't see my name on the entries.  Heck I'm not even going to the race :\\(((  but if I was, you wouldn't see my name there.  However, I also feel that as long as women allow themselves to be exploited, there will continue to be wet t-shirt contests and bikini barrel races, and the list goes on and on.  If nobody had entered.....you wouldn't see that event on the schedule next year.  Now no offense to those who are entered......I have always envied those who are proud of what they have or don't have and aren't afraid to let a little show.  They probably have more spice in their life than I do and more power to them.  I'm sure that everyone will take the necessary precausions to ensure everthing stays tied and tucked or otherwise under control.  You probably won't see any more there (probably less) than you do at the local beach or swimming pool.  After all, nobody "wants" to be on the next blooper video !!

Bikinis are fine when worn at a swimming pool!  But, that's where they belong - at a pool and not in an arena!   (woohoo)

I personally wouldn't enter a bikini barrelrace either. I'm nervous enough with my clothes on makin a run! Most definitly would not want to have pictures or video made of me runnin in a bikini! But i would watch the man and women who did enter and cheer em on for having that much nerve! I'm sure Mr. Barter meant for it to be funny, but if he finds it offends too many people he might consider not doing it again. ( I still think it will be funnier than it will be sexy).

I have mixed feelings about the bikini race. On one hand it should be entertaining and hilarious. It takes a lot of guts for someone to enter it. I would have to have several margaritas pre-race if I were entered. The "contestants" have a high chance of making a complete fool of themselves in front of a lot of people AND the TV stations covering it. rofl I agree that it is exploiting people  of both sexes and is not a good example for our kids. I hope for the sport that it comes off without any catastrophes/embarrassments. I think Mr. Barter should consider having a bareback barrel race next year instead. It would be just as funny and entertaining and a lot more CLASS.  I will be there to watch and laugh at them with my husband in tow. Wouldn't miss it.

<COLOR GRIN> JMO......I think the Bikini Barrel Race is just harmless FUN FUN FUN!  It's no different than wearing a bikini while swimming, playing volleyball, jumping from a diving board, riding a horse in your bikini on the beach, etc.  It's definitely STILL good riding & great horses & competition.  It's something different to break up the monotony of the regular barrel race.  I don't believe it's exploiting anyone, all the contestants entered VOLUNTARILY & are FULLY aware that there will be a very large audience watching.  <COLOR GRIN>
Title: Re: Bikini Barrel Race
Post by: b-racerbabe on October 21, 2006, 08:08:46 AM
:no:Christie, it is different - completely different.  You expect to see bikinis on a beach or at a pool. That's where they belong though.  I don't care if they're playing volleball or riding a horse on the beach.    Barrel racing takes place in arenas - not on beaches.  Personally, I don't believe in "anything goes as long as you claim it's all in the name of fun!"   Women need to be careful that they don't become objects of "fun" in every aspect of life.   I realize I won't change your opinion - or anybody elses - that has the mentality of "anything goes in the name of fun!".    I don't think a bikini barrel race is appropriate for this event.    There's thousands of other things that could be done "in fun" that arent' as disrespectful to women and the sport of barrel racing.   <HI>

I wish I had the confidence to enter something like that and I am positive that the stands will be as full if not more full during that race as compared to the rest of the finale. I'm sure most people wil find it very entertaining and fun and I doubt you see anything worse than what you would see on a beach somewhere.

OK, I know I'm going up in flames over this...

I have not posted my opinion one way or the other concerning this event. I merely said that if you will be embarassed to watch, don't look. I do not feel I have the right or obligation to police anyone else's virtue or morality other than my own. I do not applaud any of you for having the guts to post your opinions on this board, because I feel if you have a problem with it you should go straight to the producer and voice your opinion. I'm guessing that you have not done that. You have only come on here to try to get everyone stirred up over your "cause". If you were to go to the source of your impending problem with your complaint, then I might applaud your courage.
Title: Re: Bikini Barrel Race
Post by: Christi on October 21, 2006, 08:59:08 PM
b-racerbabe, would you feel the same way if the Producer of this barrel race was a female?
Do you believe all women who wear bikini's have boob jobs and are pole dancer's?
I wear a bikini top in the summer mowing my yard to get a tan, so what does that make me?
Oh, I don't have a boob job either!
And your comment to melaself was VERY inappropriate, she did not attack you in any way.....she simply stated that those who have a problem with the Bikini Barrel Race should go straight to the source to complain.

:lalala: Well, I hate to disappoint you, but I did go straight to the producer with my concerns.  Let me remind you - he's male.  No wonder he thinks this is a great idea.  Full stands don't make it right either.   I obviously have more respect for women and the sport of barrel racing than you.   Near nakedness shouldn't be required for "fun" everytime women are involved.    Now my turn to guess about you....  You fall between the age of 23- 32, you have fake boobs and you enjoy pole dancing? (woohoo)

When we went to the NBHA Youth world in Jackson, there were lots of teenagers riding around in the parking lot on thier horses in bikinis, some were laying out, havin water balloon fights, on their bikes, and just having fun. Swimsuits were everywhere. My husband, sister-n-law, and I even put swimsuits on to get in our blow up pool and have a margarita after a long week of camping in a parkin lot!

I'm glad teens and youth are involved in the sport.  I think it's wonderful that families are doing this together.  I don't plan to start telling parents how to raise their kids.   I just think it's important to know when to draw a line and hopefully, parents are teaching their children this too.   If you don't ever draw a line - where will the stopping point be?   This barrel race willl be getting a lot of exposure.   I'm not wrong to take a stand about keeping barrel racing a respectable sport that's about hard work, good horses and cowgirls competiting.  I love good times - believe it or not  - too.   I think there are plenty of other things that could be done at this race that would have been just as much fun and "G" rated.   I'm going to repeat something I said earlier.  This event should be taking place late at night - not at 6:30.   I wouldn't have as much issue if it was happening later - when mostly adults are out and about.  Again, I love barrel racing - for the great sport it is.  I want to keep it the repsectable sport it has ALWAYS been.  Unfortunately, like most things in America, those lacking morals and values will find a way to bring it down.

This is my last comment on the subject... I have better things to do...   :later:

Isn't America great! ! !   We are not forced to enter a barrel race, we are not forced to enter a bikini race, or a hula contest and we are not forced to sit in the stands and watch those events.  If we, as parents, think our children should not see a bikini race we are not forced to make them watch.   So...what do we learn from all this rambling.  Go if you want too, dont go if you don't want to.  Simple.  I have finished redoing my stick race barrels so that Bobby can use them in Guthrie, take the kids to the Kiddy Corral.  But mostly...have fun.  Life is far, far to short to become uptight about something you can control.  Go...or...dont go.  But have fun.

Its not more exploiting women in this case than it was exploiting men in the case I mentioned before of the guy roping in boxers at one of Bobby's ropings. Its entertainment. You don't agree so don't watch. Watching would only be supporting something you are obviously against. Its obvious that the majority of people agree that it will be nothing more than entertainment. Get over it. I seriously doubt Bobby is going to cancel this part of his finale.

<(' ')>Okay, okay.  I said I wouldn't post again, but here I am.  My apologies to all for my part in letting this discussion get out of line.  I really was intending that when i started this.  I honestly wanted to know what the general "feel" was about having the bikini race at the finals.   I understand this race is intended for fun.  I don't think all my views are wrong and out of line, but maybe I have been a little too harsh about the whole thing EMBARASSED.  Christie, I apolozie to you for the "boob and pole" statement.  That wasn't right for me to say....so I take it back!   <DUMMY ME>

I'm excited about going to Guthrie and I'm looking forward to all the fun, runs and prizes!   I'm protective of things I love...and that includes the sport of barrel racing.  I still have my opinion and concerns - but I'm going try to soften my thinking some.   I hope Mr. Bobby will be carefyk to keep his events respectable, family oriented and clean.  I trust he will.

Good luck and safe travel to all that plan to attend the Guthrie race... (hi there)
