2008 San Antonio Livestock Show $17,000 Added Barrel Race

Lots of you had questions about this upcoming new format for the San Antonio Livestock Show....this barrel race will be new for the SALS and will take place of the futurity.  NBHA Texas State will work the office for the event but the livestock show horse show office will be taking all of the entries.  If you would like to find more info, enter online, or print entry forms, you can go to www.sarodeo.com and click on the horse show link.

The barrel race will be two days, you can enter one day, or both days, they are two seperate barrel races. 
Wed. Jan 30th will be open arena & exb barrel/poles
Thur. Jan. 31st 9am will begin with Open 5D barrels, Senior 4D, YOuth 4D, Open 4D Poles
Friday Feb. 1st 9 am will follow same schedule as Thursday.

You do not have to be an NBHA member to enter this barrel race, however, all NBHA members will be eligible for awards in addition to payouts!  There will NOT be a non-member fee.

I've never been to the SALS so can someone please tell me about the pen.  I've heard it is small and is run under a closed gate. Is this true?  I would like to attend but would like to know a little before I go.  Thanks! (((

NO your horse does not have to be registered.. this is hosted by NBHA not the AQHA

I do remember the arena being small and people sitting right on the rails.  It seemed we had a run out but very short and right into the holding pen with all the horses but worked out fine.  Just remember it is a rodeo and not a barrel race.  There is walking and hauling involved to get where you need to be.  Just allow yourself enough time and you will do great.....It should be a blast!!

I am real excited about a BIG livestock show adding that much money for a real barrel race & pole bending.......sounds like it might be a cool new concept at the stock shows!!!!  >PEACE<

espicially pole bending... that's what my daughter's horse was used for before we got him... I guess I should try to find more pole bending competitions
