The old Burris Indoor Arena....Stephenville, Texas 1973--8 yrs old...riding Junior...This was Mom's good horse at the time and she would
throw me up there and I'd run and win the youth, and she would go get a check in the Open....This was a rodeo they used to have there on
Saturday nights....I loved this place as a kid----wow, it was so big when I was so small!

Now this is not me of course, but it is Mom at Huntsville Tx in 1973 at the Huntsville Prison Rodeo, held every Sunday in October.  All the events were convicts but they had a TOUGH open barrel race.  It was the place to be in October.  They had a HUGE barrel race, and set a
HUGE pattern...she ran a 20+second run...and this run was 5th that only paid $65.  That should tell you how far we've come.  NOTICE THE BROKE REIN AND HOW HARD SHE WAS RIDING AND SHE JUST KEPT ON COWGIRLING UP.....That's what cowgirl up means folks.... :cheeze:

1987 at a jackpot in Marble Falls at OConnor's arena....no tractor, no drag every 5, hard rock ground that caught me at the 3rd barrel--I won this barrel race on "Penny"...a mare belonging to Donna Shiller, Taylor Tx.  I was 22 yrs old.

My very first saddle....I was 12 yrs old.  I still have this saddle and it sits in my office on a rack with some others I cherish....the sorrel horse is named "willie"...he was a gift from CHUCK & JACKIE DUNN (YES, Chuck of D & G Productions!!) after my little sorrel horse died.  LOOK at that HAT!! LOL...I wanted one just like Butch Kirby's (my friend Jo is now married to him) who was a World Champion Bullrider!!  Guess me and Butch were alittle weird.... :ROFL2:

This is 1968...Texas Barrel Racing Association Annual Style Show....Mom's and daughters would dress up and show off.  mmmm.....I wouldn't shut up (does this surprise you?) and Mom gave me a cup of ice to eat.  When they tried to take it away from me to take a decent picture I would scream bloody murder...so like most people....they just gave up and took the dam picture..... :ROFL2: :ROFL2:  I was 3.

Some prca rodeo...somewhere....I remember winning second but I can't remember where now...appeared in the wpra news....i was 16.

Nice pictures laura, Keep posting. It is so nice to see old pictures again. Its amazing how styles have changed and then come back. And omg The days of the big hair. I remember them quite well and the concrete in a can. (The purple aqua net hair spray.) For the days when hair had to be perfect. Gee I hated that stuff. Take care and see ya all soon.
