shoieng tip of the week
« on: August 10, 2009, 01:04:55 AM »
It was brought to my attention to put a shoeing tip on the forum every week to kinda help answer any questions anyone might have. these are just what i see on a day to day basis. and personal opinions. was checking on the idea.

Love it.  Apparently the girls that use you love you.  And it is always good to hear from a professional!!

Thanks for thinking of us!

Great idea!

I think this is a great idea. Everything we have is barefoot. But trimming/shoeing tips would be awesome. Anything that we can do on this end to make a farrier's job simpler or easier. Amanda does maintain her horses between trimmins.

ok question u who run barrels with barefooted horses..how do they handle the rocks and concrete and all the stuff at the different facilities? are they more susceptable to stone bruises and being gimpy? i have a rock driveway and the one that is a pasture ornament when he walks across he bout drops-he cant handle the rocks..i'd be so scared mine would go lame without shoes and stepping on all the crude

Mine are barefoot and also have a rock drive and I started walking them a little at a time over the rocks without me riding them and slowly started to take my time riding them over a Small area then more. You can also use the ribber boots ate the races to protect the more tenderfooted horse and remove before you run. I think they do better feeling the ground barefooted. I have one that has bad feet not sure if she will be able to go barefooted.

Deb,
The only place that I've noticed any of the horses payin attention to the rocks is at Montgomery Cowboy Church when we hafta cross the road/driveway. They've never had any bruises, but we do walk them slow so they can kinda pick out their own path. If we park in the back, they are walked on the edge in the grass, allllll the way around to the arena entrance.
