Ok, ive trained my barrel horse since he was three and is now 9. we took it considerably slow and easy with barrel training and about 3 months ago he started backing up, running ppl over who were trying to lead us in, and just flat out refused to go in without a herd of horses with him... all the while i say to myself "sack of Taters" to remain loose and relaxed, but he still seems to get nervous... any suggestions??

If you've been running him all this time and he just started this for no obvious reason, you probably need to have his hocks checked. He's at the right age for them to begin to fuse.
