R.I.P. PLAY PARTY My First Horse I had her for 29 yrs.

My 33 yr old mare didnt eat her dinner last night, nor her breakfast or dinner tonight.  My hubby said she has a runny nose, so I checked her.. yup it is.. but its not yellow, or clear.. and it  runs out of her nose, after she grinds her teeth together??  I gave her some penicillin, and a shot of banamin for pain.. Ive called 2 different vets, 3 times.. and no one is responding?? I think it might be a tooth?? she isnt stressing, no flaring nostrils... no fever..she has her blanket on and two heat lamps... what do yall think it might be?

 my 27 yr old is and has been doing that for some time now.took him to the vet they floated his teethand sent me home with smz ? tablets   clears it up for a while then right back it comes . he said he thought he might have a small hole that food is getting impacked up there and causing infection.

 he gets  alfalfa hay in bag(cant eat reg) and it isn't so bad for him to chew.  the smell from his nose is terrible. he is gaining weight and seems to be doing fine.but i know this couldn't be good for him.i'm afraid if they put him to sleep to do surgery he wouldn't make it. i have noticed he does make an awful noise every now and then but as i say he is eating good and seems to feel fine.

Many prayers that it is something simple.  I don't like it when the old guys get something, they've earned their peace and quiet.

 i sure agree  i have a 6yr old neice that would and (will be) broken hearted  if something happens to him. she says that is HER d.j.

ok, vet said he must be a tooth... her heart, and lungs sounds great..... he looked in her mouth, and said he didnt feel or see a tooth that was acting up.. but it could be early stages of an impacted tooth... or even  a sinus infection, which could result in other problems for an old horse.. so 200 bucks later, we came home with bute, banamine, penicillin and some other anitbotics...... she isnt eating still, but she acts like she is feeling better.. but thats cuz shes on meds.. ........ the biotch didnt even want to load back into the trailer.. she has NEVER EVER not wanted to load.. her is having a bad bad day.. ........ I cried at the vet, cuz I am afraid of losing her.... ive had her 29 yrs.. shes like my baby.. only 1100 lbs !!....... But for now, she is alive and standing in her stall..... Thanks for all of yall concerns.. I will keep ya updated

well that is what d.j gets but vet didn't send me home with anthing but the tablets.  i do see alittle swelling on the right side of his nose. i have even sprayed vetricyn up his nose for infection and rub vicks sav up nostrills  like i said some days nothing much  others its like a tub of cottage cheese. i know exactly how you feel  i have had him since he was 6 .

me too, she hungry, she goes to her feed bin.. but wont try to eat.. its a mash.. with honey in it.. but she wont touch it... nothing.. she went to the water.. but wont drink it.. this is day 2.. if she dont start eating and drinking im going to lose her..

Spounds like ulcers, I had a colt that would grind his teeth from uclers that he would foam at the mouth. Had him scooped and sure enough, it was ulcers/

the vet said she wasnt choking.. but when she grinds her teeth.. the white foamy stuff comes out of her left nostril..... not her right.. but her left..... since ive given her come pencilin, and her anitbotics, and her bute and banamine.. she seems to feel better.. just not eathing yet.... just say prayers for her.. shes my baby.. and we've been together for 29 yrs...
