Delbert diagnosed with AAADD
« on: February 12, 2005, 10:40:55 AM »

Recently, Delbert recently was diagnosed with AAADD: Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests:

He decided to wash his car. As he started toward the garage, he spotted the mail on the hall table. He should go through the mail before I wash the car.

He lay the car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can
under the table, and notice that the trash can is full. So, He put the
bills back on the table and take out the trash first.

Since he going to be near the mailbox when he take out the trash
anyway, he might as well pay the bills first. He sees his checkbook on the table, but there is only one check left. His extra checks are in his desk in the study, so he goes to his desk, where he finds the bottle of juice that he had been drinking. He is going to look for his checks, but first he needs to push the juice aside so that he dosen't accidentally knock it over.

But the juice is getting warm, and should be put in the refrigerator
to keep it cold. Heading toward the kitchen with the juice, a vase of
flowers on the counter catches his eye. They need to be watered.

He sets the juice down on the counter, and finds his reading glasses, for which he's been searching all morning. He had better put them back on his desk, but first he is going to water the flowers. He sets the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water, and suddenly spots the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table. Tonight when we sit down to
watch TV, we will all be looking for the remote, but nobody will
remember that it's on the kitchen table. He should put it back in the
den where it belongs, but first he'll water the flowers. He splashes some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on the floor. So, He puts the remote back down on the table, and get some towels to wipe up the spill.
Then he heads down the hall trying to remember what he was planning to
do.

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed,

the bills aren't paid,

there is a warm bottle of juice sitting on the
counter,

the flowers aren't watered,

there is still only one check in his checkbook,

He can't find the remote,

He can't find his glasses,

and he doesn't remember what he did with the car keys.

He was trying to figure out why nothing got done today;
it's quite baffling because he knows he was busy all day
long, and is really tired.

He knows this is a serious problem, and he'll try to get
some help for it, but first he'll check my e-mail.

Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to
whoever you think might enjoy it, because he doesn't
remember who he's already sent it to.

Delbert's Tip Of the Week: "I've learned that depression is merely anger without enthusiasm
Aut viam inveniam aut faciam - I will either find a way or make one.  "Can't lives on Won't street."

Let us be reminded of what Captain John Parker told his army at Lexington Green, the place where the War for Independence began in 1775. He said, “Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.
