What would cause a horse to wring his tail?
« on: February 21, 2005, 12:36:49 PM »

Hi Martha,
what would cause a horse to wring his tail? He has no injuries & been on barrels 1 1/2 yr and seems to do it with every rider. do you have any suggestions? Thank You
Gail

Dear Gail,
Tail wringing is usually a result of something pain related. It could be one of a number of things: improperly fitting equipment, physical pain caused by sore hocks, stifles, ankles, etc, bad shoeing, confusing and rough cues being given by the rider.

This came to me while chopping wood the other day. You've heard don't sweat the small stuff. I say save it for later and use it for kindling
