alley way issue
« on: September 26, 2006, 08:07:23 PM »
I have a 5  old that i bought when she was 3. I have just now started running her not even full speed. Every since i got her we have taken the barrels really slow. for over a year we have been doing lots of trotting. I still trot at least once a week when we go to the trainers. When I first started going to playdays she went in fine. But then it got to where she would kinda resist but i would give her a  nuge and she would go in. But then she started rearing and trying to run the other way. She would only rear when someone tried to lead her in. Also it got to where i couldn't get near the ally way unless i went way out behind it. I want to speed her up now but i am having so much trouble getting her in the ally way.

could you please give me advice on something to do?   Thanks

Alexis,

It sounds like you have tried to take things slow and easy with your horse
but for some reason you are not conveying or building any confidence in her.
Are you nervous when you go away from home?  Something is causing your horse
great distress to cause her to refuse to go into the arena when just working
slow.  Have you done a lot of running or speeding things up without her
being confident in what she is doing??  Have you had her thoroughly checked
by a vet to make sure she isn't sore or hurting when she is asked to exert?

This came to me while chopping wood the other day. You've heard don't sweat the small stuff. I say save it for later and use it for kindling
