Early Oct Update
« on: October 09, 2006, 05:28:07 PM »
Wow, what a month Sept was!!!  Ben is rocking right along with his skills improving.  Not as the great leaps you see in a normal developing kid but it has sure made our house less stressful.

Ben was going right along in the potty training process and then he derailed.  We havent figured out what went wrong but we are working on it from a behavioral stand point, because, let me tell you he knows when he has to go but he chooses not to.  Grrr, but as with anything else, he will (we will) conquer this problem and over come it.   8)

Now let me tell you about something exciting;  The week before ANHA we went to see Dr Stewart in Austin and of course the first thing he said when he walked in the door was, "Is he talking yet?".  Well, he is saying more and more each week and communicating more and understanding more, but not outright talking yet.  That will be such a miracle and I cant wait for that day.     <ROCKON> <ROCKON>

Anyway, Ben was coming down with something again and I told Dr Stewart that I wanted him on antibiotics because I didnt want to end up back in the hospital again!  So, he sent us home with him BACK on Valtrex and Amantadine again, along with Zithromacin (antibiotic), Nizoral (antifungal) and cortef (prendisone).  Now, what we began to see in about a week was UNREAL!  Ben was completely chilled out, and SO FOCUSED!!!!  He would look you in the eye and do his darndest to do anything you ask him to especially in saying words.  Well anyway, during this time period he got where he would say his alphabet (yes he does know how to say it and its order - new to us though!!) and I had him count to 20 by 5's.  All I can say is WOWWWWWWWW.

But the Zithromacin, cortef and the Nizoral ran out and that Ben disappeared.  So, I called them last week and said, "Look, I want that BEN BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Well, we put him back on cortef last week to see if that was the magic pill.  I have until thur this week on that and I will have to let you know.  He isnt like he was right after ANHA and that is what I want.  So, we are in the process of finding the combination that works.

I will let you know how it all turns out.  He is very different from what he was a yr ago.  In fact, Sunday, Lisa McCool walked up to him and said Hi and Ben said hi right back without ANY prompting, it was so exciting so see him do that!

Aut viam inveniam aut faciam - I will either find a way or make one.  "Can't lives on Won't street."

Let us be reminded of what Captain John Parker told his army at Lexington Green, the place where the War for Independence began in 1775. He said, “Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.
