No one knows how many cats and dogs have fallen ill after eating the pet food subject to a massive recall. Many veterinarians are wondering whether this sort of problem is preventable as they struggle to respond to the situation. AVMA Urges Veterinarians to Participate in Survey on Animals Affected by Growing List of Recalled Pet Foods

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) urges its members who suspect they have treated animals affected by contaminated pet food to take part in a survey to help generate more information about the ongoing pet food recall. This survey is being undertaken through an agreement between the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). One of the most common questions being directed to the Food and Drug Administration during the pet food recall has been about data on the number of cats and dogs that have died after ingesting products formulated with adulterated wheat gluten.
