WINSLOW, Maine – At least five workers at a poultry vaccination plant fell ill from salmonella exposure late last year, underscoring risks associated with the manufacture of veterinary products, the national Centers of Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday. As many as 21 workers reported symptoms consistent with salmonella exposure in the one-month period following a spill of liquid containing salmonella in November, but only five workers were confirmed through tests to have been exposed to salmonella, the CDC in Atlanta said. None of the sickened workers at Lohmann Animal Health International required hospitalization For more info
Pets may or may not help fend off developing allergies but they will help keep the house from being antiseptically clean. By Melinda Wenner Pets do an awful lot for kids: they teach them about unconditional love, responsibility, death and, of course, pooper scoopers. BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) – Eight cows in northeastern Montana’s Sheridan County died from anthrax last week, and state livestock officials say more cases might follow. The dead cows were part of a single herd on a ranch near Raymond, which is between Plentywood and the Canadian border, Montana Department of Livestock spokeswoman Lisa Schmidt said. They were buried 10 feet underground in an effort to keep the disease from spreading, she said. For more info click here
The American Quarter Horse Racing Journal, September 3, 2007 – Javier and Manny Rodriguez’s Heartswideopen won the showdown with the previously undefeated Wild Six in the $2 million All American Futurity (G1), but it wasn’t Wild Six who pressured Heartswideopen to the victory. Under a stick-switching ride under Oscar Hernandez, Heartswideopen caught 20-1 longshot SF Royal Bank in the final 50 yards to win by a neck. It was another half length back to third-place finisher Captain Courage. “I’m relieved,” said Heartswideopen’s trainer Carl Draper. “She had to come from out of it, and I was worried
“WORK IN PROGRESS” “I worked on this sculpture at the Horse World Expo in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. My model was the beautiful Arabian stallion, Selket Louchiano, who was staled next to my exhibit. As I worked, he kept looking at me through a crack in the curtains, as if to see how ‘his’ Work of Art was coming along.”– Author, “Fate of the Stallion” ——————————————————————-“WORK IN PROGRESS” by Ron Hevener http://www.ronhevener.com/cart/product.php?productid=16440&cat=469&page=1 From: The Horse Collection 10″ long x 7″ wide x 10″ high Weight: 12 pounds FOR MORE INFORMATION: Ken Zook, Studio Manager kenzk@dejazzd.com (717) 664-5089
