Beginning with the National Appaloosa Show in Jackson, MS in 2008 the ApHC will be offering slot futurities and sweepstakes classes. One of the people who has been involved in developing the guidelines for the slot classes is Jack Zuidema, Chair of the ApHC Finance Committee and member of the Executive Committee. leader earns special honors from her peers FORT WORTH, TEXAS—American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) member Laura Akerlund of Grafton, Wisc., earned her group’s highest honor recently, when she was named 2007 Youth Member of the Year. In fact, ivermectin-sensitive Collies are bred for this trait because before the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine approves new avermectin products, it requests that they be tested in these dogs. If the product is found toxic when administered to ivermectin-sensitive Collies, the safety margin is considered inadequate for the drug to be used even in the general dog population. The AVMA recently updated its 2000 Report of the AVMA Panel on Euthanasia, now called the AVMA Guidelines on Euthanasia. State advises pet, livestock owners to vaccinate after highest spike of disease since ’50s. Moved by a spike in rabies cases unprecedented since the 1950s, the state Department of Agriculture has issued an advisory that includes livestock as well as household pets such as cats and dogs. Many of the cases are concentrated in Metro Detroit, experts said Sunday. The spike represents a more than 200 percent increase in the disease since 2006. Cases climbed to 169 so far this year, compared with 49 animal cases in 2006, according to state agriculture officials. The disease is caused
