Texas adopts new anti-tuberculosis cattle regulations

New regulations aimed at protecting Texas cattle from tuberculosis (TB) will go into effect Oct. 13. Texas livestock health officials adopted the new regulations after recent findings of cattle TB infection in two New Mexico dairies, a Colorado bucking bull herd, and an Oklahoma beef herd. The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) hopes its new entry, testing and movement regulations will continue to keep the state’s cattle industry TB-free. Ag. commissioner cites slight increase in horse abuse and neglect

IFTON, GA. –Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin says that horse abuse and neglect is on the rise statewide. A drought that led to hay shortages, the closing of horse slaughterhouses, a downturn in the economy and equine inspectors spread too thin are among the factors that have led to abuse and neglect, the Tifton Gazette reported on Saturday. Bravo! issues nationwide recall of poultry products for dogs and cats

Bravo!, of Vernon, Connecticut, has recalled three of its poultry products for cats and dogs. The pet food is being recalled because two of the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, while the other product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Jerky treats from China could be causing illness in pets

The AVMA staff has been in communication with veterinarians who believe certain brands of jerky treats from China could be causing illness in pets. Signs of illness have included vomiting, lethargy, and anorexia. The Food and Drug Administration is aware of consumer complaints relevant to chicken jerky for dogs. Laura Alvey, director of the communications staff at the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine, said the agency is actively investigating the situation.
