Herpesvirus: One Horse Dead, Several Delaware Stables Quarantined

Six stables in Delaware are under official quarantine after a horse that displayed neurologic signs was confirmed positive for equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1). The affected horse was euthanatized Jan. 17. While polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests on nasal swab samples confirmed the horse to be positive for EHV-1, additional tests to determine whether it’s the neurogenic strain are still pending, according to State Veterinarian Sara Busch, DVM. Accomplished AjPHA member named NRHyA Youth of the Year

FORT WORTH, Texas—American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) member Christine Gordon was recently named Youth of the Year by the National Reining Horse Youth Association (NRHyA). The 14-year-old Evergreen, Colo., resident, active AjPHA member and avid Paint Horse reining competitor received the honor for her outstanding participation in the NRHyA Varsity Reining program.
