BEEF RECALL sparks hearings, tightened inspections

Agriculture secretary assures Congress of safe food supply Congress held a series of hearings after secretly recorded video of animal abuse and food safety violations at a Chino, Calif., slaughter plant sparked the largest beef recall in U.S. history this February. FEEDING HORSES WITH ENDOCRINE DISORDERS

Nicholas Frank, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM, associate professor of large animal clinical sciences at the University of Tennessee, spoke about equine endocrine disorders that are the most manageable by dietary control. There are two main endocrine disorders to address: equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) and equine Cushing’s disease (ECD or pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction, PPID).
