AVMA Calls for Increased Veterinary Oversight in Meat Production; cites USDA Audit Report initiated after Hallmark/Westland recall

  Washington, D.C. — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) today cited the release of a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report on pre-slaughter activities in U.S. meat plants as additional confirmation that the shortage of food animal veterinarianscan have dire consequences on animal welfare. Veterinarians Stress Importance of Handwashing

Schaumburg, Ill.  — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is joining other U.S. public health organizations in urging everyone to take their health into their hands by observing National Handwashing Awareness Week, December 7-13. Qualifying Points for the 2009 AQHA World Championship Show Approved

Amarillo, Texas, December 16, 2008 – The qualifying season for the 2009 American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show is under way, and the recommendations for qualifying points have been approved. AQHA’s in-house World Show Committee uses a formula to determine the qualifying points. The committee then presents the recommendations to the AQHA Executive Committee for approval. Qualifying points for the 2009 World Show will remain the same as in 2008, except for the junior heading, junior heeling, senior trail, ranch sorting and amateur ranch sorting classes.
