Rabies cases among cats on the rise

Schaumburg, IL — While reported cases of rabies in the United States dropped in 2008, veterinarians and public health officials warn that an increase in the number of reported cases in cats poses a health risk to both animals and people. 59 HORSES QUARANTINED, STRANGLES SUSPECTED AT HOOSIER PARK

Fifty-nine horses have been quarantined because of a suspected contagious infection at Hoosier Park racetrack in central Indiana. STUDY: NEUROLOGIC SIGNS NOT LIMITED TO ONE EHV-1 STRAIN

Anytime a horse develops fever, malaise, and a stumbling gait or inability to stand, owners should contact a veterinarian immediately–they might be dealing with equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1).
