Ohio House approves tougher animal-cruelty bill

A bill that seeks to toughen the penalties for animal abusers cleared the Ohio House Wednesday. The bill, which now heads to the Senate for review, would allow city or county officials to charge kennel owners with a fifth degree felony when they neglect or abuse animals they are paid to care for. Ill. lawmaker backs off legislation on animal mass euthanasia

Ill. state Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, Wednesday retreated from his proposal to permit the use of gas chambers to euthanize several stray shelter animals at one time.
