FDA Warns about inadvertent exposure of children and pets to human estrogen hormone products

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning that inadvertent exposure to Evamist through skin contact with patients using this product has the potential for adverse effects in children and pets. Evamist contains estradiol, an estrogen hormone, and is used in women to reduce hot flashes during menopause. The drug is sprayed on the skin between the elbow and wrist, on the inside of the forearm. Animal Ag in Crosshairs Over Antibiotic Use, Health Group Wants Ban, Veterinarians Don’t

Animal agriculture is no longer flying under the radar when it comes to its use of antibiotics, especially in feed. Last week, over 1,000 physicians and nurses called on Congress to enact legislation prohibiting non-therapeutic use of antibiotics in animal production. Three-hundred hospitals are pledging to make changes in their food service meat purchases to exclude meat raised with antibiotics. Oklahoma heath officials are urging residents to be cautious, after 42 rabies cases have been reported across the state this year. Rabies is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system, and is transmitted through a bite, an opening in the skin, or through body cavities that are exposed to the external environment, like the nose, mouth and eyes. A Nevada wild horse advocate has again asked a federal court to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) forbidding the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to gather animals from the Rock Creek and Little Humboldt Horse Management Areas in northwestern Elko County.
