Raw-food devotees balk at governmental restrictions

Vaccinations against EEE, West Nile virus are urged for Alabama horses

With about 30% of horse deaths reportedly linked to West Nile virus and nearly 90% associated with Eastern equine encephalitis, Alabama’s agriculture commissioner is advising horse owners to have their animals vaccinated against the two mosquito-borne diseases. CONGRESSMEN SEEK TO HALT BLM GATHERS

A bipartisan group of congressmen have asked Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar to halt controversial gather operations in Nevada and postpone all pending wild horse gathers until an independent study of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) mustang management operations takes place. USDA petitioned for tougher walking-horse show rules

A former Maryland senator and four animal protection groups are asking the U.S. Department of Agriculture for new rules to strengthen enforcement of the Horse Protection Act. The act, passed by Congress in 1970, was designed to protect Tennessee walking horses from “soring,” which involves using chemical and mechanical methods to inflict pain to achieve an exaggerated gait known as the “Big Lick.” Former Sen.
