House passes bill that would address rural veterinary shortage

A bill that would authorize USDA to provide federal matching fund to improve food animal veterinary services – particularly in underserved rural area – passed the House on Sept. 15. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Adrian Smith (R., Neb.) was supported by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the U.S. Animal Health Association, the American Horse Council, the American Meat Institute, and more than 80 other farm and veterinary organizations. Phase I study shows promising results for rabies treatment

A new cost-effective rabies therapy developed by MassBiologics at the University of Massachusetts and the Serum Institute of India has taken an important step forward with positive results from a Phase 1 study. Veterinary Services Investment Act advances

WASHINGTON – The U.S. House of Representatives today approved The Mandatory Price Reporting Act of 2010 (S. 3656) and The Veterinary Services Investment Act (H.R. 3519). The Mandatory Price Reporting Act of 2010 will reauthorize mandatory price reporting programs run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for five years.
