USDA Scientists Studying Causes of Foot-And-Mouth Disease

U.S. Department of Agriculture scientists have learned that foot-and-mouth infection in cattle begins when the virus selectively infects epithelial cells in the back of the cow’s throat. This discovery could lead to development of new vaccines to control and potentially eradicate FMD, a highly contagious and sometimes fatal viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals that is considered the most economically devastating livestock disease in the world. American Paint Horse Association partnership formed with World Conformation Horse Association

FORT WORTH, Texas – The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) recently entered into a partnership with the World Conformation Horse Association (WCHA). The associations agreed to recognize points earned by Paint Horses at each other’s events for a horse’s performance record as well as World Champion, Reserve World Champion, futurity champion and reserve champion titles. Top 10 finishes will be recognized as well. They will also work toward holding joint educational judging seminars.
