ZENYATTA CROWNED HORSE OF THE YEAR

Zenyatta, the daughter of Street Cry who sustained her only loss in 20 starts when second in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic, was honored Jan. 17 as North America’s Horse of the Year for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs. The winner, announced during the Eclipse Awards dinner in Miami Beach, Fla., received 128 first-place votes, edging out Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Blame, who received 102 votes. Oklahoma board withdraws emergency rules on animal husbandry

In the midst of a dispute over what are described as “misinterpretations” of rules centered around farmers and ranchers continuing to care and treat their own animals, and concern for protecting Oklahoma public health and safety, an important state agency has withdrawn proposed rules. NEW Thoroughbred Retirement program opens in South Florida

Wellington, FL – The Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (FHBPA), with the support of Gulfstream Park, Calder Race Course and the South Florida jockey colony, recognizing the need for a South Florida based Thoroughbred retirement program, has formed TRAC, a retirement, retraining and placement group dedicated to horses that end their racing careers at one of the two race tracks.
