A leading authority on stock horse heritage, equine author Frank Holmes died January 12, 2013, near his home in Ramah, Colorado, due to complications from cancer. He was 65. Born November 3, 1947, Frank grew up in North Dakota, where he cultivated a love of horses. Frank submitted his first article to Western Horseman in 1961 at age 13 and was a published writer by age 14.
