2008 American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Nominations Open, Deadline Drawing Near

Amarillo, Texas, September 13, 2006 – Nominations are open for the highest honor in the American Quarter Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame, and the November 1 deadline for 2008 inductees is drawing near.

Nominators are encouraged to nominate an AQHA member (unless nominee deceased prior to 1940) who has had an impact on the American Quarter Horse industry as a promoter, breeder, competitor, trainer, or in other ways a contributor of his/her time and talents to the benefit of the American Quarter Horse or the Association. For horses, the nominee must have been outstanding as a sire, dam, competitor, or must have brought exceptional visibility to the American Quarter Horse.

Nominators must submit as complete a biography as possible on each nominee.  The more information provided on the nominee that fits the criteria, the better the possibility of selection for the Hall of Fame. Also, each nominator may nominate one or more persons or horses.

After the November 1 deadline passes, the AQHA Executive Committee will appoint a subcommittee to review all nominees. In addition, the subcommittee will review qualified horses and people not nominated to place before the full committee for consideration. After the list is finalized, it will be reviewed by the Hall of Fame Selection committee after January 1, 2007.

A list of those nominees receiving votes equivalent to two-thirds or greater of the committee members present will then be submitted to the American Quarter Horse Foundation’s trustees for final approval. Upon approval by the trustees, induction into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame will take place at the 2008 AQHA Annual Convention.

Persons nominated to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame may be either living or deceased; however, horses must be deceased.

Inductees for 2007 will be honored during the AQHA Convention held in Houston in March. They include J.D. Blondin, Anne Marion, Bill Collins, D. Wayne Lukas, J. Marvin Willhite, Goetta, Grey Badger II, Diamonds Sparkle, Bert, Expensive Hobby, Chicks Beduino and Barbara L. These inductees will join the 122 people and 62 horses in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. Construction on the new building is scheduled for completion in spring 2007.
