American Paint Horse Catsalena Shines at Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Derby/Classic Challenge

Catslena stood a cut above the competition at the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Derby Classic/Challenge March 13–18 in Paso Robles, California.

Catsalena outranked competitors in the cutting field at the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Derby Classic/Challenge March 13–18, 2012 in Paso Robles, California.

The 5-year-old bay overo gelding picked up a trio of honors for owner Martin Pelcyger of Pleasant Cove Stables, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona.

Ridden by David Costello, Catsalena scored a 220 to lead the field of competitors in the Classic/Challenge Open division. In the $10,000 Novice class, the pair placed first, winning $2,127 for the title. Within the same class, Catsalena finished second place in the Open Classic/Challenge Gelding finals, earning an additional $1,256.50. David and Catsalena then capped off their earnings with a $6,568 check for placing third in the Open Classic/Challenge finals.

Catsalena is by Cats Merada (QH) and out of Dotsalena. Bred by Patricia Bello of Creston, California, Catsalena is owned by Pleasant Cove Stables Inc. of Tucson, Arizona.

The Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association’s Derby Classic/Challenge featured more than $100,000 in added money and offered lucrative classes for both open and non-pro competitors.
