American Paint Horse Foundation help raise funds for college scholarship program

Innovative American Paint Horse Foundation
projects help raise funds for successful college scholarship program

FORT WORTH, TEXAS —For the 23rd consecutive year, the American Paint Horse Foundation (APHF) will award college scholarships to deserving students late this summer for the 2006–2007 academic year. Since 1983, more than 150 students have been awarded with 409 scholarships, worth more than $407,000. In the 2005–2006 academic year alone, 14 new and 22 renewed $1,000 scholarships were awarded.
To support successful programs like this, the APHF offers breed enthusiasts many ways to get involved.

Sales, auctions fund scholarships
Several of the newest fund-raising projects designed to help the foundation offer scholarships include a cookbook, reduced-rate breedings to champion reining sire Boomernic AQHA, sale of the coffee table book The American Paint Horse: A Photographic Portrayal, and the auction of a pair of hand-crafted Billy Klapper spurs. The spurs will be up for bid during the 2006 World Championship Paint Horse ShowÂ’s World Showcase Sale on July 1 and on-line prior to the live auction.

Returning programs and services
Several returning incentives that benefit the scholarship program include an annual trainer services sale, which allows the public to purchase one month of an expert’s time at a discounted fee; warm-up classes, which provide competitors schooling classes at the APHA World Show; as well as three World Showcase Sale items—a Gist bit, a bronze by Clay Gant and a Pro Stepps product package worth $250.

The Foundation also promotes the preservation of Paint Horse history with its returning programs and services, such as the Legacy of Color bronze series. Tax-deductible donations earn contributors bronzes in the series, which depict the various color patterns found in the Paint Horse breed.

Also benefiting APHFÂ’s historical goals are a one-of-a-kind pair of spurs from The Masters Collection by Gist Silversmiths. Hand-crafted with sterling silver accents, blued finish and featuring a black and white enameled Paint Horse, they will be available for purchase as a lot in the World Showcase Sale in Fort Worth, Texas, July 1.

Donations
In addition to supporting the American Paint Horse Foundation through the purchase of goods and services, tax-deductible donations are also accepted and may be designated for scholarships, historical preservation, research or general use. Items of historical interest to the breed may also be donated. To download the contribution form, visit apha.com/foundation/contributions.
