APHA’s new Las Vegas show features big cash prizes and exciting entertainment

FORT WORTH, TEXAS—Cue the bright lights and bring in the money! The countdown to APHA’s electrifying new horse show—Paint Vegas—has officially begun.

Paint Horse enthusiasts from all over the country are invited to the highly-anticipated event, which will take place Dec. 5–10, 2006, at the luxurious South Coast Hotel and Casino’s Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Offering cash in lieu of points to those winning and placing in the show, Paint Vegas is expected to be second only to the APHA World Championship Show in Paint Horse attendance and participation.

Paint Vegas will feature three different categories of classes: futurity, jackpot and slot. The Paint Vegas experience promises to be memorable. Classes scheduled for the show include working cow horse, reining, yearling longe line, Western pleasure, halter, hunter under saddle, cutting, roping and barrel racing.

APHA will also offer special Gamblers Choice trail, working hunter classic, bridleless Western riding and 3-year-old cutting challenge events.

At least $230,000 in prize money will be added throughout the show, with a minimum of $5,000 added to the seven jackpot classes and 15 Open classes, in addition to a minimum of $10,000 to the 12 Non-Pro classes. Payouts will be split for classes with limited exhibitor divisions.

The total payout for the five inaugural slot classes will be $288,500. A complete list of slot owners is available on-line at aphapaintvegas.com.

The high-dollar purses aren’t the only aspect of Paint Vegas that is impressive. The South Coast Casino is itself, a Las Vegas extravaganza.

The hotel’s equestrian center features a 4,400-seat arena, with an event floor, modern sound system, multi-functioning hospitality bar and cattle pens roomy enough to accommodate 2,000 head of cattle. The arena also houses a judge’s lounge, show offices and a second warm-up arena, as well as 1,200 climate-controlled horse stalls, a veterinary clinic, farrier center, feed store and washing bays.

APHA’s Paint Vegas will be accompanied by a 40,000-square-foot gift show. More than 100 vendors from across the country will be offering their finest wares for high-quality shopping. Visitors can find the perfect gift for anyone on their holiday gift list, from furniture and tack, to clothing and jewelry. The gift show will offer something for anyone with an interest in the Western lifestyle.

In addition, APHA will host virtual stallion alley where stallion owners can efficiently promote their horses to a large audience of mare owners, all thanks to the benefits of videos and modern technology.

Adjacent to the equestrian center, the hotel and casino offer a wide variety of dining and entertainment options. In addition to the 80,000-square-foot casino, the facility houses a 16-screen movie theatre, a 600-seat bingo hall and a 64-lane bowling alley. The hotel boasts 1,350 rooms, a spa and fitness center.

Those attending Paint Vegas are eligible for special APHA room rates if staying at South Coast from Dec. 3–7, APHA members pay $77 per night, while on Dec. 8–9, they pay $110 per night and on Dec. 10, the price goes back down to $77 per night.
