Entries are due June 24, and move-in day is July 4 at State Fair Park.

The American Quarter Horse Journal — The 2011 Battle in the Saddle at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City is a one-of-a-kind equestrian event that showcasesĀ six truly western disciplines. During this year’s Battle in the Saddle, July 5-9, competitors shoot it out in fast-paced, exciting events: ranch horse, reining, working cow horse, roping, cowboy mounted shooting and cutting.

Horses and riders compete for their share of more than $140,000 in estimated total purses. The cutting, reining, roping and working cow horse classes are recognized as AQHA special events, with all breeds welcome. American Quarter Horses competing in these events will receive AQHA points.

On Friday, July 8, don’t miss Fred Whitfield of Bay City, Texas, as he tries to defend his match- roping title against Ryan Jarrett of Summerville, Georgia. The entry deadline to participate in this year’s Battle in the Saddle is Friday, June 24.

Competitors and horses may begin moving in to State Fair Park after noon on July 4. No horses will be allowed on fairgrounds property before this time. All horses entering State Fair Park for Battle in the Saddle mustĀ have current health papers and a negative Coggins testĀ (within one year), or the horseĀ will not be allowed on the grounds.
