AQHA: Free Admission for Military

Through Labor Day, members of the military and their families get in free at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo, Texas.

America’s Horse, August 6, 2010  – If you are a member of the military, you and your family are eligible for free admission to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo, Texas, through Labor Day.

The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum educates the public about the origins of the American Quarter Horse breed and features exhibits for each of the Hall of Fame members – horses, men and women – who had a hand in the development and growth of this versatile breed of horse.

As an added bonus, America’s Horse in Art: The Horse That Settled the West Show & Sale returns to the Scharbauer Gallery in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in August. The public is invited to the America’s Horse in Art opening, which will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 14. Many of the talented artists will be at the opening and available to discuss the inspiration for their art work. Each piece of art – ranging from pencil drawings to sculptures – is available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale of the art will go to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame to support its efforts to preserve the history of the American Quarter Horse, but due to IRS regulations, the art purchases are not tax-deductible. View the complete collection. The art will remain on display until November 13.

The free admission offer is part of the Museum’s partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and more than 900 museums in all 50 states to offer free admission to military personnel and their families as a way of thanking them for their service. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members and up to five immediate family members.
