The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum invites you to take a tour of the Best Remudas.
The American Quarter Horse Journal – The tools that are most-used on America’s ranches today don’t require gasoline, oil and tires. They’re tools of the four-legged variety – American Quarter Horses that are intelligent, willing to please and built for a day’s worth of fixing fence, moving cattle and branding. These horses are the reason behind the AQHA-Pfizer Best Remuda Award, which has been presented to 19 ranches since 1992.
The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo is proud to announce the opening of “Best Remudas,” the museum’s latest exhibit featuring 97 photographs highlighting the 19 winners of AQHA’s prestigious AQHA-Pfizer Best Remuda Award. The photographs were taken by acclaimed journalist and former American Quarter Horse Association Executive Director of Publications Jim Jennings.
“We’re honored to be able to exhibit Jim Jennings’ outstanding photography from working ranches around the United States, Canada and Mexico,” said Ross Middleton, director of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum. “These photos are a great testament to the hard-working cowboys and American Quarter Horses still working on the ranch today. We encourage everyone to stop in and experience a glimpse at a day in the life of these award-winning ranches.”
The Best Remuda Award, presented by AQHA and Pfizer Animal Health, is given each year to one North American ranch that is chosen based on its quality of horses and how its remuda – the band of horses used to do the daily work necessary on a ranch – contributes to daily life on a real working ranch. The photographs in this exhibit capture this unique way of life and the integral role American Quarter Horses play in these ranchers’ livelihoods.
Winners of the Best Remuda Award include Haythorn Land & Cattle Co., Four Sixes Ranch, Pitchfork Land & Cattle Co., Moorhouse Ranch and S Ranch.
The “Best Remudas” exhibit is adapted from the book, “Best Remudas,” by Jim Jennings, available at Quarter Horse Outfitters.
The “Best Remudas” exhibit will continue through July 31, 2011.
The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum is conveniently located on I-40 in Amarillo and is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST.
