The American Quarter Horse Journal, July 16, 2007 – The American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show will be back in Oklahoma City, November 2-17. This year brings many new opportunities and improvements that will benefit exhibitors, owners and spectators.
Featuring Bank of America Amateur and FedEx Open competition, the World Show is the marquee event for the American Quarter Horse. Besides beginning a day earlier, some other enhancements and changes for this year’s show at State Fair Park include the new Super Barn that replaces Barns 1 and 2. The World Show Sale has a new facility and will be held during the middle weekend of the show (November 10-11), instead of the last weekend. The sale also includes a new bonus plan for horses sold that pays up to $5,000 more for a world championship.
The first ranch sorting and performance halter world champions will be crowned this year. Ranch sorting is an exciting new timed event where a team of two riders have the objective of sorting 10 head of cattle from one pen into another in a designated sequence. Performance halter is a new class offered to judge conformation and resemblance to the breed ideal of performance horses.
“With the renovations at State Fair Park, the addition of new classes and other special activities, this year’s World Show promises to be exciting,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Bill Brewer. “We look forward to this year’s show and plan to continue making the event better every year.”
To improve the World Show experience, finals performances will feature choreographed music, live video, entry information, instant scoring and replays displayed on new super screens. Thanks to the support of Bank of America, FedEx and a number of other AQHA corporate partners, competitors will continue to receive great awards.
In order to recognize the achievements of the owners and exhibitors competing at the World Show, AQHA is requesting that they complete bio forms. These are available online at http://www.aqha.com/showing/shows/worldshow/bioform.html and also will be available in the horse show office during the show. The information from these forms will be used by the World Show announcers, The American Quarter Horse Journal and other media.
During the final four nights (November 14-17), spectators can enjoy free, live commentary about the competition in the arena, courtesy of The American Quarter Horse Journal. Spectators can pick up a Q-Bug at the main entrance before the 7 p.m. performances and learn about the American Quarter Horses competing, their handlers, owners and the legacies of their pedigree. Viewers watching the live online video feed available from aqha.com also will have the opportunity to listen to the commentary provided by AQHA Professional Horsemen.
In addition to exciting American Quarter Horse competition, horse enthusiasts can enjoy shopping at the Trade Show and special giveaways from AQHA’s team of corporate partners.
This year, World Show visitors have the chance to participate in Oklahoma’s 100th anniversary of statehood celebration. An American Quarter Horse bronze will be dedicated at State Fair Park on November 16.
As always, The American Quarter Horse Journal will continue to bring extensive World Show coverage from World Champion interviews, behind-the-scenes stories, results, contests, live Web cam and more. Visit aqha.com throughout the show for all the latest information.
For the third year, the World Show will be featured during a one-hour special on NBC in January. America’s Horse Television also will showcase the event on two, one-hour episodes on the TVG Network.
