Wellington, FL – April 9, 2012 – Great Southwest Equestrian Center, located in Katy, TX, is an eighty-acre, multipurpose venue, specializing in equestrian events. Recently under new ownership, it is launching new strategic initiatives that include expansion and improvements to the facility with a vision to be one of the premier equestrian facilities in the nation. The Great Southwest Equestrian Center is about to undergo construction to add a third indoor arena, the Tellepsen Arena, and additional capacity allowing an expanded schedule and larger events.
The new Tellepsen Arena is named for the Houston-based, fourth-generation, family-owned and operated business. Founded in 1909, Tellepsen is an award- winning commercial and industrial construction firm known for their high-profile projects and the integrity and quality of their work.
“We could not have hoped for a better partner than the Tellepsen family. Their contribution will have a significant impact on the Great Southwest Equestrian Center, the Houston area and the equestrian community. It is with great pride that we name the new arena, the Tellepsen Arena,” shared Great Southwest Equestrian Center General Manager, Sean Brown.
According to Tellepsen President, Howard Tellepsen, Jr., and “Great Southwest Equestrian Center is at the epicenter of the Houston equestrian community. It’s in our ‘backyard,’ and we want it to be the best that it can possibly be. We’re very fortunate that the owners feel the same way. They have a vision and passion for making Great Southwest Equestrian Center a world class facility.”

Tellepsen and his wife Carolyn are loyal supporters of the Great Southwest Equestrian Center. “Our sons began riding at the GSWEC in 1990, and the Center has been an active part of our lives ever since. My wife, Carolyn rode her first horse there and has enjoyed being an active amateur competitor in both hunter/jumper and reining at the Center for over 20 years,” shared Tellepsen.
Year-round, Great Southwest Equestrian Center is home to a wide range of local and international horse shows and events including, the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC), the second largest reining show in the world, which they have successfully hosted for the past ten years. The NRBC, which runs from April 16-22, 2012, has signed a letter of intent to bring the show to Great Southwest Equestrian Center for an additional seven years.
“We are continuously seeing innovation and improvements in both the facilities and the quality of the operation. It’s an excellent equestrian experience for the rider and spectator alike,” conveyed Tellepsen.
Great Southwest Equestrian Center also hosts The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, one of the country’s most prestigious equestrian events as well as Arabian, Dressage, Hunter/Jumper, Reining and American Quarter Horse Association Shows.
